I’m saying it doesn’t completely causes something to halt/freeze.
OP was saying it should be possible dura neg because it causes someone to completely freeze (which would include thei cells) unless I’m a dumbass and lack reading comprehension.

I just reread the chapter where Deku uses gearshift on the giant smoke cloud. He does say the low gear was holding it in place. I was under the impression that it slows things down. Deku does confirm it freezes things. I was mistaken.

Gearshift is just "changing speed while ignoring inertia"; the gears are how Deku uses it, they're not something the Quirk had by default (so to speak). Anyway, if we base it on what that change of speed without inertia is, it should reduce something to 0 or an unmovable level. Furthermore, couldn't he freeze in mid-air when Shigaraki was about to strike him by prediction?

The volume extra for chapter 368 implies that Deku only mimics the mechanisms of a car because that's how he's used to training his quirks. Especially because in the next chapter, Kudo is shown using Gearshift without doing the shifting movements

Yeah the shifting, physically and the sound Deku makes, is said to help Deku visualize the quirk better but that doesn’t mean the different variations of it doesn’t exist.
That’s how I understand it.

The Gears are never mentioned in any databook or message from Horikoshi, and it would add to the fact that it is not the first time he has done this with his Quirks. For example, OFA doesn't work in percentages, and All Might doesn't use them either. Percentages are how Deku uses OFA. The same would apply to the Gears. Its function is to change speed without inertia, and the Gears are the way Deku uses them, but they are not a predetermined part of the Quirk

All Might brought up percentages, not Izuku. Izuku only knew he was using 5% when controlling OFA because All Might told him in the Sports Festival.

All Might also mentioned how he isn't always moving at 100%, so he regulates his percentage when working.

All Might even said support gear meant to withstand 20-to-30% of OFA was too bulky for him to use practically.

So I don't know what you mean by OFA not working in percentages or All Might not using them, either.

"Percentages" just means how much power they're using of their Quirk. All Might is capable of holding back and regulating himself.

I have a question that was ignored yesterday, but I'm curious to see what you all think.

Would it make sense for Deku to receive the Durability Negation hax thanks to Gearshift? I say this because the Quirk is based on controlling the speed of the objects it touches at a cellular level. What does this imply? It implies that if Deku were to decide to set his speed to "0" or become immobile (which is possible depending on the GS's recoil), the enemy's cells would stop. This would imply things like lack of oxygen or heart problems/death due to not pumping any blood, and according to the manga, this Quirk can affect oxygen. (Or at least that's what we saw with Deku, since when he was immobile he was unable to breathe and had to resort to forcing his own movement with Blackwhip)

With regards to the percentages, it is a bit of a misnomer to say All Might doesn't use percentages at all, but I think it's a matter of differing perspective and experience is the point.
All Might could use OFA like it's his natural Quirk. Holding back is intuitive for him, without consciously and specifically thinking of percentages like Deku does. All Might using OFA is probably closer to how everyone else uses their super strength whereas Deku is accessing a portion of an energy source he couldn't handle at full. It's a slight but important difference.

It's part of the narrative that Deku's analytic view of Quirks lets him use Quirks like they're support tools which helped him adapt to having multiple ones, and I'm certain it helped him with the supersuit too.

Worst character in the series imo. At least Mineta is relevant and Ojiro has a decent costume.

I think for the most part they’re handled pretty well. They’re side characters, so they don’t get as much attention as Shoto who is one of the main protagonists. They still all get one big moment at least, though. But I wish that Ojiro and especially Sato got the same amount of attention as the rest of the Class.

unfortunately all they get is the one or two moments. after that they dont do anything impactful again

That’s the nature of side characters I suppose. They’re there to be entertaining rather than have complex stories and arcs.

Sero gets a few I feel. He manages to inspire Deku and is the first one to save him during the final battle. He also helped Deku train with BlackWhip. Ultimately though, he’s a very minor character so he doesn’t really need to be anything other than fun to watch. And that gets him above Sato and Ojiro (and maybe Mineta as well, he has his moments though so idk).
