Tension in deltarune seems to be a form of energy that exist both as physical and mental
And as such should receive something from it
The soul Absorve energy from the bullet through thier own field, whem hit by enemy the soul is incapable to absorve enegry from thier enemy through thier field
Also here
Items like tension max sugest that is possible to transform such energy into a comsumable item for later use
Susie and ralsei also show to produce this energy through thier tension to able use spell like rude buster and heal prayer.
Edit: also the knight also seems to do the same thing Here by absorving light around the environment
