The Boys Verse Debunk: Calc Issue

Yer kinda messed up the calculation. Size of the bloke is higher then it should be, that's small though.

Yer really messed up here. An unsound calculation that doesn't follow. You multiplied it by 2. So, the formula changes from:

4πr^2

to

R^2 × 3.1416 × 2

Which changes the values drastically. I.e. Makes it unsound.

10^2 × 3.1416 × 2 = 628.

4π10^2 = 1256.

2973 / 288 = 10.322 Tons of TNT.

Let me recap.

Explosion yield = 2973 Tons of TNT.

I = P / A

Surface area of a sphere = 288 m^2.

1.2439e+13 / 288 = 10.3.

Of course then we multiply 10.3 by 0.996 = 10.25.

Well. 0.996 is kind of wrong... Let me explain.

The CA of a human is very complex. However using the highest possible CA of an object is flawed.

If you wanna be basic. I'll make a quick calculation.

CA of a human = 0.68. Average human surface area = 1.69 / 0.68 = 2.48. 1.9964 / 2.48 = 0.805 m^2.

10.3 x 0.8 = 8.24 Tons of TNT. Large Building level.

Oh and lets not forget this.
Size of the bloke is higher then it should be.

I'm sure Arthur_Nando already explained why the explosion intensity formula is the way it is in this specific case - It only travels in half a sphere instead of what it normally would be if it detonated mid-air. So IDK on what basis you are calling it unsound. As a result I have to disagree with that as well.

This is for an average human of average weight without muscles. Anthony Starr (Or rather, Homelander in this case) is anything but. I disagree with the surface area recommendations.

You tend to assume things. Arthur_Nando did not explain this. Even if he did, I'd unfortunately have to disagree. Your claim that it would travel half a sphere instead of if it detonated mid-air is in and of itself unsound. I assume you mean that because it detonated near the ground that the explosion would therefore be a semi-sphere. That's just wrong you first have to prove the blast was actually constrained to semi-sphere propagation rather than simply assuming the ground cuts a full sphere in half. Anyway, ironically, the explosion does happen mid air, just that a floor is below it, 9 seconds, the explosion happens in the air.

Yer didn't realize Homelander likely wear's a muscle suit? Anywho, you're still wrong. My approximation scales to an actual value rather than an assumption, of course on the wiki we wouldn't rather the latter. Also- Muscles wouldn't change the CA drastically, you also must realize, a human.. Does... have muscles.

I'm studying atm /:

Probably late but..
Have you ever heard the saying that cockroaches survive nuclear blasts? Made by people who hate them, and implies they're far more uniquely durable than they are. It's a hyperbole about how difficult it is to get rid of them.
Except it doesn't? This is apples and oranges

Being able to survive a nuclear blast and needing a nuclear blast to kill him the are two very separate things. Butcher outright says a weapon capable of killing him would have to be something like a H+bomb because of his powerful he was

Why wasn't I notified about this before? Well...

You kind of miscalculated. The guy's size is bigger than it should be, but he's still small.
Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant by that.

You made a mistake here . That's a baseless calculation. You multiplied by 2. Therefore, the formula changes to:

4πr^2

to

R^2 × 3,1416 × 2

This drastically alters the values. In other words, it becomes an inconsistent situation.

10^2 × 3,1416 × 2 = 628.

4π10^2 = 1256.

2973/288 = 10,322 tons of TNT.
I am following the parameters to calculate the durability of explosions near the ground, paraphrasing:

"The further you are away from an explosion, the less damage you will take from it. That is, because the power of said explosion is distributed over a larger and larger surface area as the distance from the epicenter increases.
The surface area of a sphere is A = 4πr^2. This is relevant because when an explosion occurs, the energy of said explosion radiates outwards as a sphere, unless obstructed. If it happens on the ground, the explosion is restricted in the downward direction and hence only expands in half a sphere, meaning A = (4πr^2)/2. Other surface areas are imaginable as well."

Although the epicenter of the explosion does not occur so close (a height of 2~3 meters), because the radius of the explosion is absurd compared to its initial height, this can be easily disregarded.

Explosion yield = 2973 Tons of TNT.

I = P / A

Surface area of a sphere = 288 m^2.

1.2439e+13 / 288 = 10.3.

This suggests a slight restructuring of how we calculate a person's body area, so that's a topic for another time. I don't care that much about it and it won't change drastically, so I'll leave that to those in authority to decide.

This is bunk.
Anyway, ironically, the explosion does happen mid air, just that a floor is below it, 9 seconds, the explosion happens in the air.
Inverse square law is 4πr² by default. You don’t get the other formula just because “the ground exists.” Prove it or drop the assumption.
Duly noted. Agree to disagree then.
This isn't an agree-to-disagree; it's logic and physics. Just accept it, if you're wrong, you're wrong, if you're correct, then keep debating.

If the formula proposed is wrong then the calculation using it can't be right. That isn't a matter of agreement or disagreement if that's the case. You can't build a correct result using incorrect formulas any more than you can build a stone building using bricks made of air.

This is bunk.
Saying "this is bunk" doesn't help at all.

Inverse square law is 4πr² by default. You don’t get the other formula just because “the ground exists.” Prove it or drop the assumption.

The formula "(4r²π)/2" or, as I used in the calculation, "r²π2", has always existed and has always been used in various calculations; this is literally stated on the page about calculating the durability of characters in the face of explosions, you would have noticed if you had read it. The simple fact that the explosion occurs near the ground is enough to use only half of the stipulated area, and this is axiomatic and consistent with the behavior of explosions.

"1.40 A "surface burst" is regarded as one which occurs either at orslightly above the actual surface of the land or water. Provided the distance above thesurface is not great, the phenomena are essentially the same as for a burst occurring onthe surface. As the height of burst increases up to a point where the fireball (at maximumbrilliance in its later stages) no longer touches the land or water, there is a transitionzone in which the behavior is intermediate between that of a true surface burst and of anair burst. In surface bursts, the air blast and ground (or water) shock are produced invarying proportions depending on the energy of the explosion and the height of burst."
