My Hero Academia General Discussion Thread #18

in a mood making match

ngl i wonder what the implications of gshift breaking inertia would be besides the obvious of not needing to accelerate or decelerate
A cool interpretation from Quora:

Then there can be no mass because ‘inertia is the inability of the body to change it's velocity without the aid of an external force.’ This inability arises from F=ma. Where we see that only a force can accelerate (I.e. change the velocity) any body having any mass at all.

Thus we conclude that:

Infinite acceleration is possible.
The body has no mass.
The above two points remind us about the properties of a particle called ‘PHOTON'.
So, this universe consists of just photons, no particles with mass.

Gearshift is specifically “the ability to change speed in a manner that ignores inertia,” not “controlling inertia
yea this is why i brought this up

also you can js argue its fiction being fiction cause ghosts in stories can interact and hurt physical beings while being non physical themselves tbh

crazy that BoS Bakugo still no-diffs according to VSBW

TBF to DB, they don't use VSBW rating so might be able to some Reze glaze from her supposed superiority to the typhoon devil
They actually do use the wiki to some degree, I remember when they were doing a DB cast over Clive vs Eren they specifically said that there was no vswiki profile made yet to pull from so they do look at it even if they don't base their research off of it entirely

Since inertia is the law that states "anything in motion will stay in motion, unless acted upon by an opposing force", I interpret Deku ignoring inertia meaning he can ignore any counter force, from drag or friction, to even an enemy, which I believe would be dura neg (unless said enemy is universal or above). That begs the question of why Deku wasn't completely tearing through Shigaraki every time he hit him with Gearshift activated, but I think since Deku can seemingly control when he's ignoring inertia, he didn't because he wanted to save Shigaraki. Probably not enough evidence for this to actually be the case, but just something fun to think about.

that or you can argue shiggy js has resistance to it but yea its fun to think about

Yeahhh the inertia ignorance power for gearshift has many interpretations, with the commonly accepted one being that he doesn't need to speed up and slow down, and even that interpretation should make him a little bit more busted than you think in the speed aspect.
