The fact he hid behind cover means he's smart enough to not be a Homelander and assume you are unstoppable to literally everything. He had no way to confirm what weapons they were using until after they started shooting which at that point he confidently took them out without care for the bullets firing at him. That's not stupidity thats just basic caution

What you're proposing is akin to Homelander, instead of face tanking the bullets, decides to grab a piece of paper and use that as cover.

Heaven and Hell are seperate realms. That's why all characters who attempts to travel between the two uses teleportation. The "Heaven" seen from Hell is called representation by the creator herself as well. Their own realm and yet still in the distance and represtentations. In season 2 episode 2, the barrier is set to close heaven off from any other realm, which they're closing themselves off from Hell as we all know.

Other than that... first of all, the beam is not that big. It's not even bigger than a building yet you'd see it as hundreds of kilometers in size based on calling that planetary in size. Not to mention, "Heaven" literally appears to be below the pentagram shape in Hell(Literally almost always shown to be the case, some instantly collected examples here). It's not even actually visible in heaven. Further proving the point of being different realms and only a representation in hell.

That distance comparison makes no sense, the clouds are way closer for you to assume they're above Heaven and aren't just in the sky.

That's becoming an increasingly important plot point as demon overlord Vox whips Hell into a frenzy against Heaven: The two realms are close enough for actions in one to physically reach the other.
