Final Fantasy Discussion Thread

Finished Ramza

Shouldn't this be outerversal?

I don't know if that by itself is enough, but there are additional statements that have been brought to my attention beyond what's written just in there that could maybe be used to argue for it. However, we are focused on updating and fixing the verse as a whole first. As well as establishing a cosmology blog before any Tier 1 discussion happens.

Took friggin forever, but finished Ultima. This one wasn't so much copy paste the stats, I actually went and fix the format of the p&a section and added some of the stuff we've discussed on discussed on Discord as further justifications on some of her abilities. Also rewrote some parts that I thought didn't look good enough.

Following what @Deonment suggested I removed the Ultima Demon key from the her profile and will make a profile of its own to cover that.

Also, here's some other stuff:

-Found the original text and translated the whole bit of Espers being at just an echo of their power in Ivalice.
-This is the site I used to get a lot of my information of Tactics. I can tell you it's reliable. At first I wasn't sure if the information were transcriptions from the in-game texts or interpretations of the web owner, but after actually checking the Japanese version of Tactics all of them match. It has info on all the games of Ivalice, including Vagrant Story and also Tactics Ogre for those interested. The text I mentioned above was found here.

At the very least it'll be well animated if Torrian's involved, though I'd prefer Dante to be fighting Kratos.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis's collab with Final Fantasy XIII is here. There already seems to be possible buffs for the Lifestream and possibly FFXIII Lightning. Also, couldn't this be used to grant the FFVII cast's magic the properties of FFXIII's magic, and vice versa?

how is stranger in paradise treated on the wiki? is it seen as an alternative universe to FF1?

  • Abstract Existence (Type 1; Absorbed the Essence of the Crystals to his being, being one with the Crystal's literal essence)
so the first part did happen but i have no idea when they became one with its essence. anybody know what its referring to

Finally got this done, granted I did put a lot of love into it so it's unnecessarily heavy on images.

FFVII Ever Crisis Event Turns Aerith Into Kaine, Sephiroth to Nier - Siliconera https://share.google/xBc9XWxWX1qQt0PbY

Aerith gets to dress like Nier Replicant's Kaine and Young Sephiroth gets to dress like younger brother Nier in the Nier FF7 Ever Crisis collab, which is pretty cool (I thought the collab would've just been with Automata).

The end of the year is such a nightmare at work...!

Whinning aside, almost finished up with the last touches to Final Fantasy VIII. I just need to cover a few things to get revisions to tiering done. Nothing too big, but here's what I have in mind.

Now, most of these are proposals rather than surefire changes, and even then the bigger changes are in the lower tiers. Aside the more obvious cross-scaling to Gilgamesh, the higher tiers remain mostly the same.

The event was kind of a mixed bag. On one hand, the costumes were great, the obtainable gear was stupidly good and 2B was a surprisingly fun boss, especially in the bonus challenges. On the other, for some bizarre friggin reason, this crossover didn't have a Story Mode. Like, what the frac?

I abhor Gilgamesh scaling in a lot of games he makes an appearance in as just like a cameo boss fight since it usually gives scaling far outside of the scope of the games narratives where this happens in but this does seem sensible to me (especially since its just a possibly rating and not outright)

I really don't have a solution for the LS since great attractor is so weird but regardless this is all great work

@Dalesean027 you will get Gilgamesh scaling, and you're gonna love it. 🗿
Everyone loves Gilgamesh scaling, I love the upgrade Disk II FF7 characters get thanks to Rebirth brining Gilgamesh into the plot. Gilgamesh scaling comes for us all, we cannot escape.

Mira que patitas! Mira que patitas! Mira que patitas en 3D!

It's kinda like Slenderman. The more you know about Gilgamesh, the more easily he will find you and force himself to scale to your verses. Lol.

I personally don't dislike scaling to Gilgamesh...? But I'm not too fond how off the wall it can come depending on the game. One thing I really dislike is to ignore a game's own feats and lore and just replace all in it with Gilgamesh scaling. It's why I was so insistent on getting calcs and all that for Tactics and VIII instead of just slapping 2-A and leaving it at that.

This is my main thing tbh as long as we can accurately represent the in game ratings from the primary narrative im fine with tacking on the 2-A as a possibly for instances of him appearing

That's lame. I thought for sure this would be one of the events with a story.

Earned the aid of Gilgamesh as a non-junctionable Guardian Force. As mentioned before, in order for a Summoner to earn the help of their Summon, they must prove their worth by being strong enough to defeat them.
This clearly didn't happen with Squall though. In the JP text Gilgamesh mentioned Bartz's name when he first appeared and he randomly came out of the portal, so I don't think he even knew who Squall was and thus this shouldn't apply to anyone for scaling

If I wanted to scale them to Gilgamesh I'd argue Griever is said to be the strongest GF Squall can imagine, so it could put him above Gil?

Yeh, I think that's the way to go. It's one of the reasons why I'm so eagerly waiting for revisions for XV, given most of its stuff is from cross-scaling.

Given how story heavy and how the narrative is one of Nier's biggest points, you'd think they'd at least try to put something together to have the cast encounter 2B and all. Honestly, this is the second storyless event I've seen (first one was a small christmas campaign last year, but it was running alongside the FFVI crossover so it didn't feel like a big deal) and the first crossover without story. Granted I joined the game after the 1st year anniversaary so I dunno if there were other events like this before.
playing 7 Rebirth.. its cool..
Heh, noice.

Hmmm... yeh, I guess I could have argued it better. I was mostly referring to how Gil still decided to stick around and help out Squall and co after homerrunning Seifer. Granted that personality wise, even if Squall and the rest proved to be good opponents Gil would most likely just leave to look for a way to the Rift or see if he can collect some swords. Using Griever as a scale is possible, but being quite honest... but I couldn't quite find a way to avoid the redundancy of why not straight up scale to Gilgamesh.

The other possibility is the other thing I brought up, that the enemies in the last stage can endure Gil's attacks and Squall and the team can hurt them as well. Compared to Seifer who was almost literally swatted aside simply from the gust of wind created by Gilgamesh swinging at the air.

Why do we use the low end of the Ifrit statement calculation? It only accounts for burning away the surface.
Dunno if it has changed, but afaik when "destroying the world" is brought up, until more details are given, we just assume it means destroying the surface.

EDIT: Forgot to mention before, but I do plan to update all the FF8 profiles, fortunately Squall is a framework for them and can speed up the process quite a bit. I'm trying to see if the Tiering proposal goes anywhere before proceeding with that.
