Vs Battle Wiki values are becoming a meme

Sonic vs Lightning Mcqueen

Tbf i do hope this ends in the wiki not taking everything 100% literally all the time, and adds highball/lowball reasonings on profiles more often for ambiguity.

Half the posts just takes out of context screenshots from the tier section. No amount of adding reasonings is going to change that

To play the devils advocate, bias most definitely effects the wiki in ways that's hard to control.

I think this thread is completely useless to be honest.

Standard procedure for braindead internet discourse is to ignore the heat and continue on your way. Acknowledging it is entirely unnecessary, making concessions to it is putting a bigger target on your back than you ever would have got for what you originally did.

Giving this attention is stupid, frankly. It's not as if any of the things being said are valid criticism, it's just "haha look at the silly place filled with silly fools", along with a smattering of malcontent from previous users who have left or gotten banned. This has happened for over a decade now. Same shit, different ass.

And it'll blow over when the same way. As such, I see no reason for the continued existence of this thread or any others like it.

I agree. This thread has fulfilled whatever purpose it could've served, so I think it should be fine to close now.

Funny, I kind of hold the opposite view?

A lot of it is valid criticism, but it's mostly things that we have been aware of and are working on, but is simply being applied more broadly than is fair. Many pages ignore anti-feats, scale based on bad reasons elevating a bunch of characters to ridiculous stats, and wank non-feats into cosmic tiers.

And from reading comments I found one that gave me food for thought. Part of it I already knew (that tabbers not working on mobile is a serious issue, although this is something only Fandom itself can address), but this user brought up the interesting point that Tiers themselves aren't self-evident. Which is pretty bad UI, for something we put at the top of pages. A short thing at the top of the page should be something simple for first-time visitors, not an opaque code that only existing users understand.

But an actual discussion on how one should change that obviously belongs for another thread (and shouldn't be done before infoboxes).

It's not fun, you're a poopyhead. Want me to spell it out, you're a poopy head.

The funniest part to me about all this is that newcomers probably don’t realize just how in-depth each tier actually is, or that some tiers can have characters who are billions of times stronger than others yet at first glance, they all seem equal. The problem is, I’m not sure there’s a good way to show how massive those differences really are on the actual pages without it looking either completely ridiculous or overly complicated. While stats and multipliers technically demonstrate that gap, I don’t think they work as a clear indicator for the average person, since most people wouldn’t really understand them. So the big question is how can we make that more straightforward? and is it even worth the hassel???

It is already straightforward in my opinion.
Some people deliberately try not to read any explanation of what those numbers mean
Heck, it is already explained what that tier means if you look at the Profile's body.

The videos are often just slander and looking at tier out of context
None of it is about how easily you can understand the wiki

If these newcomers actually care about reading rather than just joining the memewagon they would actually read past tiers

from what I can tell, most of the criticism isn't really valid. yeah, VSBW has issues, and the criticism is vaguely in the same nebulous space as those issues, but most of the criticism amounts to what other people said, "how can this silly guy character beat up my epic awesome cool character". The criticism either lacks the knowledge to point out the (legitimate) flaws, or doesn't care to really try and is just complaining about the specifics of the pecking order.

I think there's legitimate issues to be pointed out and some that have been, but like. most of the "drama" here is bullshit.

(returning to say, before I sleep: I don't think we need to close the thread, it's not doing any harm. yet. these things have a tendency to abruptly change, but for now it's fine.)

Yeah but for the ones that dont, I think there is some valid criticism to be made, it helps sometimees when outward non-powerscaling minds can give their sort of 'common sense' takes. Some of these profiles and characters just get scaling for no reason other than existing and ignore a lot of scrutiny imo.

Thats to be expected but yeah, i think highballing and lowballing values should be used a lot better.

Also regarding people wanting to close it, i put this in fun and games just because the wiki is getting huge traction for it. There was no intention to make it a big thing that requires mods and stuff

As much as this may affect the wiki's reliability reputation, we should be allowed to embrace it a little. The memes themself arent too serious and can be misinformed (Such as using Buford when he literally doesnt have a profile lol), but as long as we explain why we think our values on the profile, it should be fine.

No one truly believes the entirety of this site is 100% accurate either, right? Its a collaborative effort and no one can possibly know the scalings of ALLLLL these verses and characters so theres bound to be some ridiculous things that slip through the cracks.

What being a professional powerscaler does to a mf.
(I'm joking).

I sort of see anyone who's actually getting up in arms about this stuff when they could just ignore it like most users here have been doing for the many years people have mocked the site, as this image:
0fb.png

Which isn't meant to be condescending as I do understand why it can be a little annoying to see people constantly mocking a site you're on and making jokes out of your hard work, but at the end of the day... People disagree with eachother, man, it's going to happen eventually. And it ain't like they just NEVER have valid criticisms either.
I think it's totally fine to criticize the wiki for being very inaccurate sometimes, it's only a problem if they're going out of their way to attack the users for no reason. It should stay as it is now, a way to call out the bad scaling justifications that some profiles will inevitably have (unless, for some reason, you believe the wiki is always perfect) while still being lighthearted with it. It's nice.

To be a bit more serious.

I have no issue with VSBW discourse. Criticism of the wiki, be it legitimate or clown shit, has been around before I was here and will be around long after I'm gone. The thing with the current landscape of internet outpouring that we face, and which I do not like, is the piling on of multiple individuals who are trying to pressure the wiki to hound our members, riding the wave of the trend boom.

You may say that these people have no power. Ideally yes, as they are primarily assholes that either don't engage in the wiki at all or are already banned. But I've seen multiple groups of people that might fold to giving them attention if the heat keeps mounting from the boom right now, and that is the absolute worst thing for anyone to do over an internet spat. Whether it be digging in your heels or fulfilling demands, if you give them a finger they'll take your whole arm.

So no, I don't think engaging with it is a good idea. As has been said above, most of the content coming out of it has no real value as criticism, either because the TikTok people don't even comprehend how the tiers work, or because they're things that are already known but just take a long time to do anything about.

Oh my god, this is a serious thread? I think I'll create a thread about vsbattle wiki memes as fun and games... Oh wait, this thread is already in fun and games... But where are the funny memes then?

Works fine on my end, I dunno what the **** all y'all are on about.

It is either private, where you have access, or other people
Or it's from a site that is blocked in certain countries, or simply an unreachable link
