Superman (2025) Movie Spoiler Discussion Thread

James Gunn said in an interview that if Superman reminded the earth everyone would get crushed can that be used for scaling? Also how would they introduce Batman in this lighter tone of the universe?

No and you're taking that topic out of context anyways that's something already addressed here.

As for the Batman portion it wouldn't be hard and like we've got Peacemaker and Creature Commandos which are TV-MA rated (same as Rated R) with plenty of visceral violence and such so they haven't shyed away from more serious tones or visuals

This was 8/10 for me, better than expected. I didn’t have many expectations before I watched it, and I have to say the use of the word ‘harem’ surprised me. They made it dirty, not cool and aura-farming like in anime. Just curious, does the US usually use the word ‘harem’ in movies?

A Superman written with James Gunn's understanding of the character's personality and values and the grandiosity and power level of Zack Snyder's version of the character would be cool tbh (minus the aspect of Snyderman about being incomparably stronger than every member of the Justice League combined lol, he doesn't need to invalidate the existence of every other hero)

I don't know if or when this thread will eventually get locked, but I just wanted to say that it's been a lot of fun talking with you guys about this movie. I'm gonna join in the DCU general thread going forward, but I hope to see you all again in the eventual Supergirl thread.

same!
also didnt know there was a DCU thread
Yeah I've said that a few times now that is only for Superman spoilers and everything else should be in the DCU thread

A movie focusing on DCU Krypto could definitely be very entertaining. Maybe don't have this version be voiced by Dwayne Johnson though...

Are… are you joking, or…?
Gunn tends to contradict himself considering when he first says that the first season of Peacemaker wasn't canon and that The Suicide Squad was still part of a dead universe, later it's considered canon. Even though this universe was said to be a complete reboot

Idk where you’re getting your info from, but TSS and Peacemaker S1 technically aren’t canon. Similar events to those projects occurred in the DCU continuity, but the projects themselves are still part of the DCEU.

Gunn has consistently described both of those projects as light canon and “imperfect memories” (TSS) or being “almost entirely consistent” (Peacemaker S1) with DCU canon, but those projects have never actually been stated to be a part of that canon, which began with Creature Commandos, as he’s stated multiple times.

Also, idk why you’re immediately jumping to the idea that he’s intentionally lying about the canonicity of… Krypto shorts, of all things.

A Morgan Freeman voiceover combined with Krypto's rambunctious antics sounds like it'd be hilarious

Sucks they aren't canon. Now we're back to asking whether or not canon Krypto has the laser eyes and whatnot.

Also I’m pretty sure it’s stated somewhere that Krypto has all of Superman’s powers? I feel like I remember that being said.
It probably is somewhere, I wouldn't be shocked. I'm mostly just joking around, anyway. Did Krypto end up getting his own profile?

James Gunn's thoughts on the success of Superman:

“That’s all it is, it’s just an enormous sense of relief,” Gunn said. “It’s relief, and then followed very quickly by excitement. Because Superman in some ways was the proof of concept. It was so, so hard, in the same way that Guardians [of the Galaxy] was so, so hard. Once you’re in the groove, you realize, ‘Oh, this is what works, this is what doesn’t, this is where we can go with this.’“

Gunn continued, “It means now we have the freedom to tell these other stories in a way that’s really exciting. Now, I can just be creative and I don’t have to be as concerned with the life and death of the DC brand as I was a month and a half ago. I feel really embraced by the audience. My feeling is that the movie spoke to people, but it also spoke to people because there was a reason for its existence. There was this message of kindness that spoke to people.“

“People may say, ‘It’s gotta be a home run, nothing else.’ I’m like, ‘No, I’d be very happy with a double,’” Gunn said. “F*****g Iron Man wasn’t the be-all and end-all. It wasn’t Avatar. We are doing something that’s a piece of the puzzle. It’s not the puzzle itself. We have Peacemaker, we have Supergirl, and what we want to do is make a movie that people love, they feel connected to the characters. It’s just this one movie. It’s not everything.“
