Superman (2025) Movie Spoiler Discussion Thread

We've officially reached 15 pages of Superman discussion, and we're only at the movie's second weekend. What a milestone!

One interesting piece of information I've discovered is that according to the children's book Superman: Friends and Foes!, Abominable Snowmen live in Antarctica near the Fortress of Solitude:

What makes this extra peculiar is that one of these Abominable Snowmen also made it into the toyline, which makes me wonder if it was intended to appear in the actual movie at one point (maybe the artbook will clarify this):

Apparently so if this is legit

Didn't watch it yet, but got spoiled so much...

Anyways this movie is flopping here in Asia, especially China. They don't want weak, cringe and cornfest Superman.
Based.
sucks that it's flopping but this might be the best Superman movie since the very first one lmao. just unfortunate release timing imo

I’m curious, does creating your own universe really not qualify for supergenius, because if so what the heck does?

Well apparently since we only rate the big bang as 3-A it wouldn't qualify since it would have to at worst be low 2-C

Erm nevermind High 3-A

I feel like the creation of any amount of new space time through intelligence would be a more coherent start of the tier but oh well.

I heard from other mods that supergenius literally requires tier 1 crap, so pretty much Extraordinary Genius is the viable choice for that

Yeah, yeah. You don't know the market that made a billion for CBMs.
This movie doesn't need a billion to succeed and while it might not have the best international box office it regardless has already made over 312 million global by like thursday and is projected to be at 400~500 million by the end of sunday, not even a week and a half after release

Just want to clarify that hasn’t broken even yet. Advertisement and the money the theaters get for showing the movie means it has to make nearly three times its budget to actually just start to profit (and with how much Superman is playing at theaters likely even more here). I hope it succeeds but it isn’t yet.
nah the rule of thumb is 2.5x but thats on a very baseline assumption, domestic heavy films dont need nearly as much because the chunk studios get domestically is much higher versus something like china which is barely 25% that still gets split between theaters.

The Breakeven point is likely in 500 Million range as oppose something like 800, which superman will absolutely make. the dailies domestically point to 350-370 finish, prob 400 if F4 wasnt coming out. and even a lot of the OS markets that are not asia have stabilized with good weekly holds. so unless for some reason the film just crashes next week, we looking at a 550 to 630 million sum, which will make it likely profitable though not to the extent that something like heavy superhero hitters make . but i think thats less important to WB than establishing a brand image that audiences dont feel toxic about. which so far good job, hopefully supergirl and clayface can ride forward with this momentum

Yeah, I think that's one of the most important things this movie can / has accomplished. The WOM for it has gone crazy, people who have seen it are (for the most part) either really into it or are at least excited for the future of the universe.

I think Clayface could succeed but it needs to be on a tighter budget. R-rated superhero movies are generally infrequent and nowadays succeed if there's a big name attached to them like Deadpool or Joker, whereas Clayface is a relatively smaller character that most people likely don't know unless they're already familiar with the Batman mythos. and that's on top on of it being horror which doesn't often yield huge numbers at the box office

to illustrate how much more domestic skews for film ROI

The Force Awakens total gross was
2.071 Billion

Domestic: $936.7 Million
OS: 1.132 Billion

Avengers Endgame total gross was:

$2.799 billion

Domestic: $858.4 million
OS:$ 1.941 billion
NET PROFIT

Force Awakens: $780.1 million

ENDGAME: $890 million

clayface is safer than supergirl me thinks, with 40 million budget and being marketed as a horror film, it should be fine, horror movies dont have huge grosses but they are the easiest money makers cause of the high ceiling in relation to the budget.

i think the real issue is if they dont commit to it being horror cuz then your giving mix signal and potentially alienating both comic fans and horror fans

yeah a lot of it comes down to budget. if Clayface can return at least 80-100 mil which seems safe, it would be successful but Supergirl is guaranteed to have a much larger one and could possibly underperform

oh damn, I think I don't really check powerscalers on YouTube or any other sites that much considering alot can be pretty ass

but the best High-Balls Ives seen was Goji-Chronic making DCU Superman Mountain lvl from the Blackholes by using a calc for Omni man being near a blackhole which definitely has a different size than DCU's
If you wanna know how bad powerscalers can be, especially when mixed with fans, try to go and see the Percy Jackson cultists explain how Percy ranges from planetary level to OUTVERSE LEVEL
