Using the name "King Nigel Acorn" does line up with post-reboot Archie, so this could be a way for Ian to get his foot further into the door to bring back the Freedom Fighters, if SEGA is actually using the preexisting versions of them from Archie's comics.
 
Captain Whisker has a model. They're adding almost everyone from Mainline at this point, it feels like.
 
If this does end up being true and happening, having Archie and IDW represented in the same game will be so cool.
 
The character descriptions may be copy-and-pasted from Wikis, meaning the characters could just be pitches and not locked in. One character's description is just copied from Sonic Wiki Zone.
 
I need a full list of leaked characters whenever possible. If some of these names end up legit, then Rovio means SERIOUS business this time.

I have low expectations for any Classic characters being made Modern. I expect their designs and characters to basically stay the same despite the time gap.
 
Well, I do want a different design, but I guess I should also say that I want the character to be different, when it comes to this idea. I wouldn't want to get to see Mighty many years later into their life, just so they can act identical to their teen self if that makes sense. SEGA doesn't seem to want the characters to change, unless said change is already mapped out at the time of their creation, so it is unfortunately expected, for me.
 
I may have found a full list of characters supposedly in the datamines. The ones officially confirmed (i.e. they have actual models or some such) are:

Amy Rose, Battle Kukku XVI, Bean the Dynamite, Big the Cat, Blaze the Cat, Captain Whisker, Caterkiller, Chao, Chaos, Charmy Bee, Chip, Conductor, Dr. Eggman, Dr. Fukurokov, Espio the Chameleon, E-100 ZERO, Fang the Hunter, Flicky, Froggy, Grounder, Heavy Magician, Heavy Shinobi, King Boom Boo, Knuckles the Echidna, Lanolin the Sheep, Marine the Raccoon, Mecha Sonic Mark II, Metal Knuckles, Mighty the Armadillo (Classic and Modern), Miles "Tails" Prower, Moto Bug, Norman, Pachacamac, Ray the Flying Squirrel, Ricky, Shadow the Hedgehog, Silver the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (plus Sonic the Werehog and Super Sonic), Storm the Albatross, Tangle the Lemur, Vector the Crocodile, Wave the Swallow, and Whisper the Wolf.

Likewise, the ones with names in the files but not much else (making their inclusion less certain) are:

Besides the above it's also been leaked the TMNT & a character from Avatar (Probs Aang or Korra) will be playable, no footage or screenshots of them yet tho
 
I imagine the loose overarching narrative based on this is “warp rings transport Sonic and friends across different multiverses”, prolly won’t be canon.

don't see why it wouldn't... having a storymode likely makes it being canon more likely
