Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

Otherworld Comedy is blatantly canon since its outfits are used in games, so I think Chris didn't understand the question.
I mean, the outfits featured in the calendar being used in other games don't make definitive proof that is canon, it could just be a reference.
Trought, he din't say the calendars are not canon, so 🤷‍♂️

Ian also said Sonic Channel stories are canon and their events were referenced in IDW. Chris clearly misunderstood the question because "isekai onigiri" is a fanon name, and mistook it for an actual isekai.

They did say canon as in "they are an isekai". It could mean that they interpreted it as "is Sonic canonically a jester" for example and not "did the events happen in the same world" if that makes sense.

He replied later, confirming that something canon needs to be localized by necessity. Non-canon stuff can be localized, but if something is canon, it needs to be the same in every region as they want to stop the discussions of "West/East" regarding Sonic. So if there's something that isn't localized, it can't be considered canon.

Guess that means the Sonic channel stuff, isn’t canon. Sad.

I think the fact he said it was an isekai shows he didn't understand the question, since Otherworld is not a real isekai.

Anyways, Ian already said they were canon. Just last game we got a Sonic Channel reference from the comic. Toyoda already said he wants to translate the stories, too. They are canon.

To add, Chris own tweets are non-canon, too.

Not impossible to be canon, but even back when said that, he also said it was in flux. Stuff gets into and out of canon all the time during discussions, most of it doesn't even get out to the fans.

So it could very well have been the case it was canon before, but last week they decided it isn't anymore. Story of the life of the Sonic Lore Team, it changes all the time and most of the releases aren't in sync with the most up to date decisions as stuff gets made months in advance.

I remember when they said Speed Simulator, Labyrinth or Rivals are not canon but actually they are, surely it's the same case with Otherworld Comedy, they say it's not canon but actually they are (Also, Toyoda didn't say it happens pre-Frontiers?)

Yeah, Toyoda said so on Twitter. I genuinely think Chris misunderstood the question because they used "isekai" instead of Sonic Channel calendar stories.

I imagine for rn Otherworld is more like, dubious canon in the same vein as speed simulator, due to the contrasting takes on them.

There's no contrasting takes, Chris comment on twitter that he clearly misunderstood isn't valid. Plus if we can only take content that released across the world, Surge isn't canon because her IDW arc wasn't adapted to japan yet.

Wish Silver's design fit his body like the other Lanterns instead of him having the gloves and boots, but this is fun.

"Sector 2006" is cute too.

The shot of Silver becoming a Green Lantern and him and the other Lanterns pooling their power together to create a gigantic hammer to crush Sinistero is genuinely badass.

Goddamn it, SEGA. You've recently made Shadow cool with Shadow Generations, give Silver his time in the sun to shine.

it will be the year of Silver...next year

Silver combining his Psychic Powers with the Green Lantern Ring goes hard as hell. Honestly, would be cool to see Silver do some psionic constructs in a similar vein just with his psychic powers alone.

It will eventually be adapted obviously, you can’t say the same for Otherworld given it’s been over a year and it’s essentially a fanart collection.

I think Will makes some sense for Silver. Keeps seeing his world ruined and desolate, and keeps on trying to fix it, I guess. It's interesting.
