My Hero Academia General Discussion Thread #18

Apparently Hagakure now has a special costume, just in case her invisibility ever glitches out again, to prevent her from being seen naked for obvious reasons.

People are going to complain that she should've had this to begin with, I just know it.

Her Quirk did bug out again 8 years later thanks to Aoyama, and the press was able to get her face on camera. That incident caused her to shoot up in the pro hero rankings.

I thought they were supersonic+(?)

Even then, doesn't really make much of a difference given how early it was (U.A Beginnings is to the training camp right?), so it's not like it affects much at all even if it does put their rating into question
 
MHA downgrades coming soon.

But honestly, if MHA was a longer series with more feats it would be able to escape all the antifeat statements (like most comic book characters). But MHA's story is pretty self contained so unless we get like a Prime AM story with more speed feats, it will be hard to argue for better speed scaling.
 
This won't change any of the current ratings for combat speed. Multiple feats from the manga take priority over a singular data book statement. However, there were already talks of separating combat speed and travel speed. It's obvious people like Endeavor and even Izuku in the Final War weren't traveling at Relativistic+ speeds.

I'd already had plans on tackling this kind of thing in the future. However, like I said, don't expect anything until this book comes out officially in English.

Take note the reason JJK was downgrade wasn't just because of the Mach 3 feat, it was just the final nail in the coffin. There were multiple statements/feats of Subsonic and Supersonic. Even an author statement saying Maki catching a bullet was a bit too much. Projection Sorcery was a pretty big anti-feat for anything about Subsonic.

Also, Mirio's surprise at Izuku moving faster than sound is still nonsense with this statement. Since Tomura is just as quick as Prime All Might, who is Mach 10.

WAIT A MINUTE!! Doesn't this mean we can use Mach 10 for Izuku blitzing Tomura with Gearshift!? I need to see if that gives anything good.

It most likely won't, but it could be a supporting feat.
 
Oh wow, it’s exactly what I said it was and is about travel speed, which is also questionable with other feats anyway.

Anywho, the rest of the info is pretty fun but basic. And nothing on Gearshift! I’m sad.

Deku coming back to No. 4 practicalky right after getting the suit is awesome, give it a couple months and he’s bashing into No. 1 easily. Bakugo not far behind and with Deku actually giving him that rivalry he wants I imagine he’ll work hard to overtake Shoto and Mirio as well.

Mt. Lady staying strong but unfortunately the UA kids are gonna be taking up the whole top 5 soon.

Eri is also super adorable and I’m glad she’s so happy. Also confirms that Jiro teaches her guitar, I’m happy.
 
Is Deku’s Faux 100% speed ever compared to All Might? And could it be faster than AM (since it gets speed via building up Kinetic Energy rather than from OFA’s/Deku’s own power? Cos otherwise that’s probably gonna change a lot of the verses speed ratings.
EDIT: realised it might not matter too much as the All Might speed is running speed, whereas the faux 100% Calc is jumping/pseudo-flight which would be faster than running speed anyway (less resistance/friction)

I wanted to see how people here would react to the All Might Mach 10 speed feat. You all are calmer than I expected. Anyway, I’m glad we got some insight from the author about his opinions on the verse speed. Sure everyone here is gonna have a fun time with the downgrade thread and the argument of combat speed vs travel speed. Personally never been a big fan of the verse’s speed rating just cuz I thought it was wanked. But honestly I just want consistency with what’s presented on-screen more than anything else.

Well the Mach 10 statement was the answer to a question that asked All Might's running speed so no real downgrade but travel speeds will need to be specified differently for sure

I don't think Hori would ever make statements like that lol. Has he ever compared his series or characters to other series from other mangaka?

It's just travel speed, though. And the speed that All Might reaches by running. I doubt that he could move any faster by jumping through the air (I mean... air resistance?), but something to chew on. And it also doesn't say anything about Deku using Gearshift or Fajin.

...And it's also from a guidebook. And guidebooks are notorious for having misinformation, so take it with a grain of salt.

It even goes through the trouble of specifying that it's him RUNNING at full power. In case you were wondering if the context of All Might never moving at 100% on foot applies... well, it's irrelevant. Mach 10 is as fast as he's gonna go, it seems.

Now, that being said... again, still travel speed. Having to move and accelerate nearly 600 pounds of pure super powered ass to Mach 10 is a lot harder then trying to play a game of sub relativistic boxing. In other words... he could probably punch a lot faster than this.

And also Deku. Just Deku and Gearshift primarily. We know that Gearshift is at least faster than this by a couple of orders of magnitude, and when you stack Fajin on top of that... It's not hard to see Deku reaching sub-rel. Idk, I'd have to check some scaling and any of the calcs you guys have done while I ****** off for a total of 2 years.
