This is in regards to a group of characters appearing in Shin Megami Tensei known as "The White".
The White reside in a vast, white space of nothingness. You get to said space when, according to the White, your atom touches two possible words (in this case, the World of Law and Chaos alignements).
The White then proceed to explain about how no matter what possibility you choose, it will inexorably go down a path of destruction (either by God's hand or by humanity itself). Then, they present their solution "to escape God's shackles": Erase All of existence.
They also explain that they lack a form, further making it clear that they are beings of nothingness. This is expanded later by Stephen, who says that the White are but an agregation of thoughts.
If you accept their proposal, all of existence is destroyed (by making the Perpetual Reactor go amok). If you refuse, they throw you in the Monochrome forest, where Stephen explains that, like the Expanse, they are but aggregates of thoughts.
Now what kind of aggregate of thoughts? The official artbook of SMT IV explains:
"The embodiment of the ancient races destroyed by the angels. They've appeared to humans four times now, sharing their memories and knowledge of the past. They claim that whether humans submit to angels or unite with demons against God, history is doomed to repeat itself and the future will never change. Therefore, they aim to obliterate all existence and return the cosmos to nothingness."
So, the White are literally the embodiment of something that was already destroyed in ancient times.
So what does this matter?
Well, the White are basically nothing (or at most, a concept), yet... Pretty much any demon or party member can hit/destroy them, as they are a recquired boss fight and a main point of the story.
Not only that, you actually destroy them, and the only reason they come back is the Reliant Immortality SMT characters have, where they will always come back in time due to humanity. Therefore SMT characters in general should have both the capacity to hit Non-Corporeals but also the ability to destroy a non-existent being.
