Two things I wanted to bring up: The possibility of Abstract Existence Type 2 and conceptual manipulation (of which type needs to be discussed if accepted). First off: Why type 2? It comes from two statements made by Cosmos:

Cosmos: You've changed.
Discord: I have.
Cosmos: I haven't. You want to know what I am? I'm malice personified! Of course I used you! What goes better with malice than chaos! And if chaos won't join me as my companion, you can sit at my feet as my dog.
So Cosmos is the living personification of the concept of malice, just as Discord is the living personification of chaos. She and Discord are the same type of creature, but they embody different abstractions. So how does this lead into type 2? It's supplementary evidence to help build onto the meat of my main argument.

Cosmos: Do you think... this is the last you've seen of me? F-fools! I'll find a way to regain my power, and you'll be sorry! You cannot destroy malice! You'll all be sorry.
This is where I believe Cosmos, and Discord by extension could get type 2 Abstract Existence. Cosmos; even depowered, outright says that malice cannot be destroyed. This is because malice is not something you can conventionally destroy: It's an idea. Cosmos; even depowered, is completely unconcerned with her own safety despite being at everyone's mercy because malice; the idea she embodies, cannot be destroyed.
I personally believe this can strongly imply that she can't really be destroyed unless you get rid of malice itself. Not the emotion, but the very idea of it. Remember that she and Discord are the same type of entity in that both embody a concept and chaos is not an emotion. Based on that logic, it makes more sense she means malice as a concept.
To address a potential argument: "Discord has been depowered several times in the show and comics." You didn't pay attention to what I wrote if you say that. I pointed out that Cosmos made this claim even while depowered already.
But you know what? Lets go deeper into this and break it down even more. Discord's nature; that is to say: Things that are fundamental to him, is not the same thing as, nor is tied into his magic. Quite. In fact both the comics and the show make distinctions between his magic and his chaotic nature. For instance: Even under the affects of a spell specifically designed to keep you unconscious, Discord is still aware of his surroundings. Clearly this can't be attributed to Discord's chaos magic protecting him, seeing as it's been negated. So the likely explanation is that it's just part of his chaotic and weird nature. In any case, his magic is out of the question. And what of the fact that Discord is quite literally made of chaos? This is absolutely a part of his true nature, otherwise he'd die anytime he loses his magic. Yet again, we have a distinction between Discord's innate nature as the embodiment of chaos and his magic.
Accord is even more explicit about it. Remember how we all got into an argument over him having type 8 for existing in everyone? Yeah, him existing in everyone has nothing to do with his magic. His magic let him control those around him, true, but as far as merely existing in other people? His magic expressly had nothing to do with that bit. Accord even says as much himself.

Starlight Glimmer: Accord's magic is spreading--and quickly!
Accord: It's not just my magic, Starlight Glimmer. It is me. I am here, in every pony! I am the unifying principle of order! I live in the hearts of all ponies who desire order! And order we shall have.
Now, as for conceptual manipulation: This is much more simple. Basically, Discord warped himself to the point where he changed the concept he embodied, going from a creature of pure chaos to one of pure order. He had completely changed the fundamental nature of his being down to the magic he used and becoming a creature of order.

And in case anyone wants to say the magic from the Cosmic Conjunction caused it, let me just say: at the end of "Chaos Theory" Accord promptly swapped back. No conjunction required. Accord was free to change back into a creature of pure chaos at anytime. Even while Discord was affected by the conjunction, he was only affected because he allowed it to happen. He wanted to change into a creature of order and deliberately allowed the conjunction to affect him, which not only implies conceptual manipulation, but also a resistance to it since he allowed it it happen. Although he clearly doesn't need to conjunction if he can simply swap back and forth by himself.
