If you actually read SAO, you'll notice he's a good prota. The anime omitted a lot of the stuff that makes him likable.

Kirito's freeze isn't time related. It's an AoE ice attack that flash freeze his opponents with a thought. His ice colder than outer space and is 2 degrees hotter than AZKnightOfSunlight said:

I think Kirito isn't that bad as a protagonist. He isn't that edgy to what people believe him to be and the reason I think SAO is hated is because it's mainstream and a harem at the same time

Amaterasu, to do any of her techniques with the sacred brush or whatever, stops time so she can draw, then she can basically do whatever.
