Welp, it's finally here. Ever since Jacky created the verse page for Khimera, there's one match that both he and I have been looking forward to. A match between the two indie platformer verses that we both created, Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls and Owlboy. However, since both characters were in separate tiers, it was figured that neither could be in a fight, and so we went on our merry ways. But, lo and behold, upon further study of their appropriate AP levels, the strength of Khimera over Owlboy is just close enough to not be considered a stomp, and so, this fight that we've both been anticipating can finally be done. Bird or monster? Chimera or owl? Which of these two will win the day? Only one way to find out!

In the blue corner, we have Otus from Owlboy, and in the red corner, we have Chelshia from Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls.

OtusTransparent
Chelshia
-This is a fight to the death or incapacitation. No holds barred.
-Neither character are aware of each other beforehand, and there is no prep time.

-Neither character are allowed any outside help, apart from Otus' friends via Summoning.

-This fight takes place in Green Hill Zone, giving both characters an even playing field.

-Speed is equalized.

With all this being said, let the debate begin!

Ooooooo man this is good alright.

So a very very important question. Does Otus often stay at range?

I also need a better picture for Chelshia's profile

Absolutely. His primary tactic in pretty much every fight is to summon his friends and have them shoot down his opponent.

While he can attack by whipping his owl cloak as well, this is usually reserved for when he really needs to get up close and personal.

Alright so, that's gonna be an issue for Chelshia because he clearly outranges her, but the only problem is that Otus ain't gonna do a lot of damage and one pizza shot will leave him terribly wounded, if not leave him down for the count.

You think that his companions can be attacked? Like...that seems reasonable right? And I'm assuming he can only summon one at a time?

Yes, his allies can get attacked, and, yes, he can only summon one ally at a time in a fight. (He can summon more than one, technically, but this has only ever happened outside of combat.) However, what makes Otus' Summoning so potent is that he can switch between any of his allies in an instant, so if one does get hurt, they'll immediately be replaced.

Okay so the main problem with that is that if someone gets injured then they're basically gonna be out for the whole fight considering how insane the ap difference is. They're gonna be wounded pretty hard with her attacks. Especially if she goes into berserk mode, though that is a bit unlikely considering she...wouldn't really do that.

I think ultimately it boils down to Chelshia trying to use the environment to actually get him to come down to a level where she can easily use her Saucy Shot. Considering she has combat literally programmed into her (uh, somehow), it wouldn't be unlikely for her to do that. The only problem is whether or not Otus would actually fall for it.

Honestly if they both had comparable AP I'd say Otus takes it more times than not, but in this case it's leaving me scratching my head a little because it does just depend on if Chelshia can outmaneuver him quickly enough.

Well, the flight advantage makes it fairly hard for her to hit him here with any certain consistency. Then again, Chelshia has fought flying enemies before, so she should be able to work with it.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Though Amelia doesn't abuse flight in fight there are opponents that Chelshia has to go high up to actually hit and use the environment to defeat them.

Hold up lemme look over the stats one more time

After quick research Otus takes the cake in Lifting Strength, Range, Mobility and maybe intelligence.

However Chelshia's far bigger AP and durability, higher stamina and being actually programmed for combat and fighting some incredibly skilled opponents give her a pretty solid victory in my opinion. It helps when her chest form lets her ignore any damage that Otus would try to dish out, given her some time to think or just space to breath in. One very good win condition I can see, besides Otus just doing chip damage until she falls over, would be to just restrain her with thread, but even then she may very well have a way out of it with her chest form. Ultimately it's a lot closer than I thought. Once again if they were more even in AP, Otus takes this, but...

unfortunately I think I may have to give it to Chelshia. I'd enjoy a counter argument though. Always good to get a debate going.

let's be honest they'd probably just chill if they actually met

I mean, Otus has faced enemies who have invulnerable modes to them, and chip damaging opponents to death is nothing new to him. And besides, as you said, Twig can easily tie her up, and even in chest form, I don't see how she's supposed to get out of it to get at Otus without exposing herself to more gunfire from either Geddy or Alphonse.

Mostly just...tanking it, I'd assume. I'd think that the web can be ripped out of with pure strength, especially if sue goes berserk. I just think that she should be able to use the environment well enough to hit him. That and...well, depending on how fast the string is, she could just dodge it.

Also has Otus dealt with someone who can constantly go invincible? Because Chelshia can just...stay in there.

Actually, he has dealt with invincible enemies before, as well as enemies that can become invincible. Unfortunately, they either have a glaring weakness that can be exploited, such as the first Ancient Owl Guardian Statue, or he is forced to flee them, such as the second Ancient Owl Guardian Statue.

Then again, the first Guardian Statue was a pain in the butt in-game due to the fact that Otus has to smack the shield-like shell off of it with his Owl Cloak, so he's flexible when it comes to these kinds of enemies, at least.

Ah, that is an issue, but the glaring weakness thing is going to be a problem because Chelshia has none of that going for her. There's no reason she can't just stay in the chest and wait for the right time to attack him, that's for sure.

I dunno, I still feel like she can use her environment to easily be able to maneuver around and take down the owlboy personally.

Yeah, Chel should take this for the reasons above.
