Shalltear's burst speed & Reaction time. This is her only REAL feat at avoiding an attack.

Shalltear's burst speed put her some distance away from her initial location that the arrows made of light reached which made these arrows turn 90 degrees to chase her down and eventually hit her.

There is not much of a debate here, you don't go hypersonic to leave your initial location and make light travelling at 670,616,629 mph miss you at your initial location to then turn 90 degrees and chase you down.

Ainz casting speed:

Ainz throws ÒÇîMaximize Magic - Gravity MaelstromÒÇì> Shalltear considers what to do while it's approaching her then uses ÒÇîGreater TeleportationÒÇì> Only to then be affected by ÒÇîDelay TeleportationÒÇì> Then her field of vision being filled by ÒÇîDrifting Master MineÒÇì

The inconsistency comes around later. Ainz has a conversation with Shalltear while ÒÇîMaximize Magic - Gravity MaelstromÒÇìis coming towards her. And yet during the entire fight she doesn't try to dodge it but rather tries to decide what spell or skill to use to negate it.

Even lvl 20ish Lizardmen could block Magic Arrow spells, so I doubt it's lightspeed.

Overlord Season 2 Lizardmen vs Lich
Overlord Season 2 Lizardmen vs Lich

He is quite literally in a position to see them appear before they shoot at him, the anime made this as clear as it should be.

In the novel, they just shoot at him instantly:

"Three arrows of light suddenly flew towards Zaryusu from Iguvua's body. The arrows of light that appeared without any preparatory actions or signs made Zaryusu block them with his sword on reflex, but the magic arrows went through the weapon and hit Zaryusu's body, inflicting dull pain."

The anime is also innacurate in many, many, ways. Hell, in that video you showed, two of the arrows are deflected by Frost Pain, which is contradicted by how the spell actually works.

I wasn't talking about the arrow deflection:

[Magic Arrows] appear > Zaryusu moves to block > [Magic Arrows] Penetrate him

He is quite literally in a position to see them appear before they shoot at him, the anime made this as clear as it should be.

The anime does deflect it, but my point was that he had seen the arrows before they were shot and was in a position to be able to. The light novel does try to make it clear that they are arrows of light.

["ÒÇîMagic ArrowÒÇì!"

In desperation, the magic caster cast a spell, sending two arrows of light streaking at Shalltear. However, they were easily resisted.] - Volume 3 Chapter 2

[In accordance with Ainz's command, the ÒÇîTriplet Magic Greater Magic SealÒÇì triggered three magic circles, each of which released thirty streaks of light, for a total of ninety. ] - Volume 3 Chapter 5

If we were madmen we'd put Zaryusu as the FTL unstoppable lizard

In the novel, they're described as just instantly shooting at him, nothing about appearing that'd give him time to aim-block. Then he reflexively blocked them as they were flying at him.

It's not rocket science.

- Established arrows of light

- Low 20s reacting in time to block

You just need to analyse the text:

[Three arrows of light appeared before Igva and shot at Zaryusu.] The side focusing on Igva

[The arrows of light that APPEARED without any preparatory actions or signs
made Zaryusu block them with his sword on reflex] - This side showing Zaryusu's perspective

Arrows appears > Zaryusu moves to block > Arrows shoot out

Also there are 2 translations, the white PDF and the black PDF, the one you're quote is this:

[Three arrows of light suddenly flew towards Zaryusu from Iguvua's body. The arrows of light that appeared without any preparatory actions or signs made Zaryusu block them with his sword on reflex, but the magic arrows went through the weapon and hit Zaryusu's body, inflicting dull pain]

The white PDF + Skythewood says this:

[Three arrows of light appeared before Igva and shot at Zaryusu. He re¤Élexively parried the unannounced bolts with his sword, but the magic arrows went straight through his weapon and pierced his body, sending a surge of throbbing pain through him.]

Above being similar to the anime in that, the arrows appear before shooting out instantly, (mistake with name).

Honestly this should have been closed.

Tl;DR

Lich sends arrows towards lizard-bro, then Lizard-bro either blocks or it goes through his weapon/by his weapon. The verse states across volumes that these arrows are made of light and even goes as far as to say they undodgeable. The first fan-translation is similar to the anime, as they both have the arrows appear before shooting out giving the lizard enough time to dodge/block while the final fan-translation and the official translation the arrows shoot out immediately. Then comes the actions of the lizard after they shoot out, the first and final fan-translation he is fast enough to intercept the arrows but they go through his weapon. The anime the get blocked and in the official translation he never makes it in time to block as they go by his weapon rather than through.

Fan translation 1:
Three arrows of light appeared before Igva and shot at Zaryusu. He reflexively parried the unannounced bolts with his sword, but the magic arrows went straight through his weapon and pierced his body, sending a surge of throbbing pain through him.

Final fan translation:
Three arrows of light suddenly flew towards Zaryusu from Iguvua's body. The arrows of light that appeared without any preparatory actions or signs made Zaryusu block them with his sword on reflex, but the magic arrows went through the weapon and hit Zaryusu's body, inflicting dull pai

Official translation:
Three shots of light flew from before Iguvua's face. Zaryusu was startled by the lack of casting motion and instinctively held his sword up as a shield, but the bolts of magic went by it and sent a heavy, dull pain through his body.

Anime:
Bolts appear before shooting out giving enough time for Zaryusu to react and then he blocks it with his weapon.

Magic Arrow is an undodgeable spell, not because of speed, but because it has homing and will track you

The word there shouldn't be 'undodgeable', as moving out the way counts as dodging, something not seen in the verse, only feat that comes close was Shalltear moving from her initial location before the bolts reached her and failed to dodge as the arrows fell on her at her next location. Official translation says: Magic Arrow may have been impossible to evade, but it didn't do a
terrible amount of damage

Although people hardly trust the official books lol.

Magic Arrow tracks, that's why it can't be evaded, it's not a speed thing

Verse states they're made of light --> undodgeable/evade --> God-tier fails to evade

Even if something tracks you, by definition you can evade/dodge it but you'd still have to eventually deal with it, as in cancel it, tank it, block it, etc...Speed is the deciding factor. Whether or not they truly go at light speed or not i'll leave to anyones interpretation.

The bolts literally make a 90 degree angle turn mid-air to get to Shalltear, and looking at the Lazer/Light Beam dodging feats page:

Furthermore, there are a few criteria which show a beam is NOT real light:

  • It is shown at different speeds in the same material
  • It is tangible and can be interacted with physically by normal humans
  • They do not travel in straight lines (unless you can prove refraction/reflection, see above)
So i'm gonna say not lightspeed at all

Yes I'm aware of the page and you can't expect authors to be aware which is why it's anyone's interperation unless the author himself states otherwise. Also Shalltear had moved to the side (whether or not this is before the bolts fired or after is unknown, as in seeing the magic circle), as we have her unable to evade the next scene. Also the magic arrows travelled in a straight line to their target's location. How light is doing this? Magic or think along the lines of omega beams (Darkseid) althought the latter is debated a lot.

Sensing something odd, Shalltear desperately tried to evade them, but the ivory bolts of light turned a full 90 degrees in mid-air and chased her down, falling on her like hail.

All they have in favor of being lightspeed is saying they're made of light, that's it. It does not behave like real light, comes from a magic source, and is not stated to be lightspeed.

Meh, just showing both sides of the coin.

Whether or not they truly go at light speed or not i'll leave to anyones interpretation.

And this discussion should actually be in general since this CRT should be closed.

What else is there to debate?

It's proven it's not lightspeed, and the lightning spells in Overlord are not lightning speed as has been discussed before

Nothing, only noteworthy thing was Ainz double casting or another way to view it would be him casting before Shalltear materialized

Which part?

Lightning speed in Overlord has been discussed in multiple CRTs in the past

And Magic Arrow does not meet the requirements to be considered light speed

So baseless assumption on Vsbattles' end?

Just great.

Yet other characters with lightning magic are MHS without any questions. Logic 10/10

The fact it has literal lightning in its name..... Duh..... and that it has similar properties to real lightning

And why would someone use a lightning spell if it's not a lightning to begin with?

1) It's name means absolutely nothing. In what ways does it have similar properties to lightning?

2) That's not an argument

Also Overlord spells have same element as said in the spell.

Or are you now going to say the fire spell in Overlord is not actual fire since it is magic?

The fact that spells in Overlord summons the same element as their name like fire, ice and darkness. It is same for lightning as well.

Unless you want to downplay Overlord

Please refer to this page to help decide whether it's real lightning or not: https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Lightning_Feats. I could see Ainz's Call Greater Thunder potentially qualifying, but I'm not sure about Nabe's basic Lightning spell.
This is why I brought it up.

Cuz the lightning used by Narberal is stated have same properties as real lightning and is actually real lightning.

It perfectly fills the second criteria.

I don't know why it is being dismissed

Overlord vol 2 chapter 4

"[Twin Maximize Magic - ElectrosphereÒÇì."

Two balls of lightning, each nearly twice the normal size, appeared in Narberal's open palms and shot forth—

—And then they struck.

The electrospheres — their destructive power greatly augmented — expanded rapidly. The electrical pulse that spread from them was huge and lit the graveyard as if it was in broad daylight. The magical lightning vanished as quickly as it had appeared, taking its power with it.

All of Khazit's minions were on the ground.

Only one person remained standing.

"Really… why didn't you fall like those other inferior lifeforms (caterpillars)… Could it be that you cast the ÒÇîEnergy Immunity - ElectricityÒÇì spell?" Narberal asked as she noticed the faint burn marks on Khazit's face.

If those were there, then he should have cast ÒÇîProtection Energy - ElectricityÒÇì, a lower-tiered defensive spell than ÒÇîEnergy Immunity - Electricity]

The spells she casted here has electric pulse same as lightning/electricity. Even protection from electricity is used here.

Overlord vol 2 chapter 4

The tears at the corners of his eyes flashed into steam, leaving behind a whispered "Mum—" The searing light consumed Khazit, and the lightning pierced him without mercy.

Khazit's body went into full-body seizures, as though he were performing some strange dance where he stood.

The current penetrated deep into Khazit's body and ignited him from the inside. After it had vanished, the smoking Khazit collapsed to the ground.

Just like lightning the body went into fully seizures and there was so much lightning charge that his body was ignited from. Inside
