Probably because it fits with other feats on that level or it vaporization was the best option, I don't know for sure.

Oh, that one.

ChaosTheory says in the blog that the complete lack of shrapnel and such debris indicates vaporization. And there are a plethora of other vaporization feats to back up using the higher end. Even in Canon, there are a bunch of nice vaporization feats for plasma weaponry.
