What does everyone think of this? (Fire Emblem)

Either sounds like a joke or that outside of game mechanics, the characters are glass cannons.

I'd like to mention that this was in an area incredibly well known for magic

My first thoughts given these 2 quotes was that it lines up with how the game treats magical attacks, and how they attack Resistance/Bypass regular defenses

Hmmm, can they survive weak magical attacks with zero magic defense?

If so, then it's probably that magic is strong and they gain resistance to magic based attacks (Not a bad ability if I say so myself)

If they can't, then you're probably correct, or it could be magic still too stronk, idk.

Or game mechanics, kinda like Pokemon's SP Def, but all in all perhaps more context is needed.

Canonically, I wouldn't know, but in gameplay a character with 0 resistance can survive magical attacks (but that really just depends on the HP they have, which is either a stamina thing, or just game mechanics)

But I wouldn't really know if it's really "Magic too strong" since there are people who use both Magic and Physical attacks, and even those who use both in the same attack

I'm more inclined to take it as game mechanics, since we don't make a distinction between physical and magical defense unless special mechanics are involved.

I mean, the second quote did make a distinction between physical and magical defenses

@JSW

But not everyone with low Resistance gets one-shotted by magic. Otherwise Alm and co. would have been a lot easier to kill.

I still think it's just game mechanics.

Or maybe stats themselves are game mechanics and everyone's canon abilities have nothing to do with them

And I really don't understand how "It's game mechanics because of this other game mechanic"

I honestly don't know where to go with this, but it was mentioned in a scripted event (which blatantly said that magical attacks don't attack physical defenses) and stated by a nameless man from an area that is well known for magic and even has a school dedicated to it, I was only saying that the gameplay doesn't outright contradict it (in fact, it lines up perfectly with the statements) and was only making a comparison to the statements and gameplay

I agree with Reppuzan, while there is some notable distinction between magical or physical attacks; a character is still comparable if they're capable of damaging, surviving attacks from, capable of dodging, and capable of landing hits on each other. Armor Knights and Sword Masters still have the same speed ratings despite general game mechanics; so with that, I still don't think it there's any need to make much distinction.

@JSW

Even if it's a scripted event, it could just as easily be a description along the lines of, "Press the B Button to do X." or "Did you know? Water-types are super effective against Fire-types!"
