The year is 2035, AD, in an alternate dimension of Earth. Back in the year 500 BC, The Dark Lord, who was a powerful warlock who became more powerful than The Devil himself rose to conquer the world with his wicked armies, unmatched sorcery, and forbidden knowledge. In this reality where magic is real, wizards, sages, heroes and the common man rose against The Dark Lord. Cities were massacred, some of the innocent masses suffered fates worse than death, and finally, The Dark Lord was slain in a battle against twenty Great Heroes. The Twelve Warriors, Seven Sages, and Holy King managed to seal, slay, and divide The Dark Lord after a terrible battle. So after the terrible, terrible war, the world was changed forever.
Things to Know:
The world is much different from our own, although some things are noticeably the same. The United States still exists, for example. However, there are religions that don't exist in the real world due to the altered history. Some religions have some differences; The Catholic Church, for example, is the same except it has legends in it's Apocrypha about the Dark Lord, and the failed attempt to resurrect him. Christianity it'self even has denominations related to overcoming The Dark Lord. Divine magic similar to table top games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder exist. In addition to this wizards are around, and there is a growing paranoia that The Dark Lord is returning. Also, technology is much more advanced than our own world, since it's 2035, and there are other, more interesting reasons why science and innovation prospers.
The Premise:
The player characters have been paid a large fortune to enter the ruins of Babylon, which is a very important location for The Dark Lord. They don't know why they're there OTHER than to protect an archaeological excavation team. Once the excavation has cleared, The player characters will be paid the equal of 1 billion dollars in today's money.

Modest to Moderate Hax starting at the most.
Your characters start at Multiple City Blocks level in attack potency and durability, and sub sonic speed. In addition, you all know how to use modern weapons by default, and are armed with long range energy weapons, and even body armor that can withstand building level assaults. (These weapons are small building attack potency at most.)
