I thought it was a decent episode, but kind of boring in a directionless way and also lacked dexterity because everyone just spouts exposition about how they feel with very little wit. I'd say it's at or near a 7/10.
Homelander icing the president so callously was great.
I think it'd have been better and more in character if Starlight was concerned rather than chastising when she told Marie, Jordan and their allies to run. I don't like how Starlight's character overall has progressed.
I really liked that The Boys are trying to give Kimiko Soldier Boy's radiation powers (and maybe even succeeded by the end of the episode). It's a creative plot point which capitalises on the Soldier Boy experiment notes from Season 3 and the uranium from Fort Harmony.
I don't like Ashley's second face acting as an expository stand-in for her conscience. It's trite and ham-fisted.
I think it's strange that Sage thinks so highly of Soldier Boy, in terms of his intelligence, reasoning power and level-head, given that he's a racist, tactless pervert.
I like that Oh Father is genuinely competent and has dimension.
I hated the Sheline and Dogknott stuff.
Sheline might've dodged a bullet after it's fired and killed a man with one punch, but she was really slow and stilted while fighting M.M. It reminds me of this trope.
It's good to see Starlight and M.M successfully save a bunch of people.
Homelander appeared to be more resistant to the Fort Harmony uranium and knocked out Soldier Boy very quickly by putting him in a headlock, so it does seem that he had some power growth, it's just not especially massive.

The episode was good but felt like something that should have been done 3 episodes ago, not in the second to last episode…
I'm not getting "oh shit this is it" vibes at all here, more like "oh ig this will get crazy in like 4 episodes".
Also the gen V stuff felt like a spit in the face ngl.

I know Marie can't join the boys. She was OP, and was literally able to bring everyone killed by Homelander back to life.
But they really need to find a better reason. What do you mean she can't control her power? After Marie cured Cate and exploded Godolkin? That doesn't make sense at all. She was just nerfed for no reason.

Kripke confirmed that the finale won't be longer than usual and that it is the ending for all the plotlines in the show.
I wonder if, assuming they have some big final battle and Kimiko has the radiation powers, Homelander is going to straight up vaporise Kimiko before she can depower him.

Yeah Episode 7 just screamed "budgeting and scheduling issues" with Marie and Jordan being morelike cameos than fully fleshed out characters that have existed in the same setting for years while the rest of Gen V is MiA (until episode 8 I guess?), a complete tonal whiplash to S4 where Sam and Cate didn't feel out of place but that's likely my own PoV. Also I like how Ryan and Zoe were clearly setup as young lovers or at the very least close friends that have bonded over losing their mom's due their mutually screwed up supe life, but nope!
I guess Zoe and her father get to live a happy life on the run while Ryan is just missing until the plot needs him again?
Seems like a very common issue with many of these streaming exclusive shows, they hit gold and it gets milked to death with an inevitably rushed ending filled with plot holes, inconsistencies and/or CiS

It gets cancelled because the gold wasn't "shiny" enough.
You don't need to be a psychic to foresee the ending of The Boys is gonna be hella rushed.
Marie is just another victim of what happens when you forget to balance the story around the abilities, tools and resources of your characters. Between Marie's everything, Cate's psychic abilities and Annabeth's precognition with Gen V alongside Sage's intelligence, Kimiko's (implied) new nuke abilities and Butcher's/Annie's powers with The Boys, even V1 Homelander should be getting stomped right? (Ryan hates him, Solider Boy is back on ice, The Deep is in hiding, Ashley is just a figurehead leader and Oh Father is the only noteworthy supe left that Homelander values).
They likely setting Homelander to get jumped as a form of irony that in his pursuit to be truly honestly loved while feeding his god complex he ended up all alone again (just like he was in that lab as kid).

This was supposed to be the episode where things actually take off according to the directors? But it still feels like nothing really happened until the end.
BTW how in the hell did they even get away from Homelander in the past episode? They just time skip and wow they're all alive and miraculously made it away by running. The amount of plot armor in this series is sooooo insane.
Also they really did all that with Soldier Boy just to put him back to sleep? Are they trolling?

It’s impressive to see multiple long running shows fumble the landing back to back. Stranger Things and the Boys ended up with the Game of Thrones treatment.
The sad thing is that I actually like Bombsight and Soldier Boy as characters. In fact, I think Bombsight is probably one of a few genuine heroes in the show. I probably would’ve watched the spin off if the main show ended half decently. But seeing how this has been wrapping up nah, I’m good.
I don’t know how they didn’t realize burning through years of good will isn’t great for new IP in that universe, that don’t have a preexisting audience attached.

He doesn't laser Frenchie or the president, and neither SB nor Kimiko are shown charging up a chest blast.

Yeah finishing up episode 7 now, 90% of the season has felt like filler. The most disappointing part is that almost every episode has had aspects that I liked.
Also it’s hilarious how Homelander has discarded everyone. Firecracker and the Deep gave him everything and he scoffs at them.

I reckon it would be if they repeated the Season 3 finale, but on a much larger scale and in a raid style. That way, The Boys and their allies would be able to take out both Vought and all of the enemy characters (including the criminal and/or mentally ill Supes Homelander released), while having characters like the Gen V cast, Ryan and Zoe participate. But, at this point, I don't see how they'd be able to execute that as well as Season 3 did in just a single episode because half of the main cast would never agree to something like that.

I actually liked this episode,this season isnt bad at all,just some lazy writing with soldier boy, trying a bit too hard to tease their new spin off series and Butcher underperforming.(Not anymore)
This episode was actually great in terms of writing,it develops everyones writing greatly and plays a nice joke on USA's theocracy.The previous one or 2 episodes was eh but this one was actually good and the comedy part is still good up to this season.Also we got canonical reasons why Sage miscalculated(Tying loose ends) and the Kessler part was great tbh on Butchers and Hughie's writing part.
If the Finale is written well then everything will go well since this season is heavily building up to a Finale,enough for it to depend on it kinda.

The finale would have to be amazing at this point to excuse the entire season being mid. Also, I admit that I liked how they utilized giving Soldier Boy’s radioactive abilities to Kimiko.

Agree to disagree then. I don’t think it’s all bad, but I wouldn’t call it great writing either lol. Not when they wasted time on the two furries sniffing each other, or the dog imaging he’s humping Homelander. If they’d cut down on the filler I’d prefer the season.

The way I see Sage is due to her nahilism and her mind being linear in thinking, all her plans, even backup plans are all ridged she can't predict people chaotic as Soldier Boy

I’m glad they actually delved into her psyche. It just feels a little too late with one episode left tbh. Honestly I actually did enjoy this episode, but it makes me upset because now it shows me that they could’ve written a better season if they weren’t focused on cramming in tie-ins for spin offs like The Boys: Mexico
