Ngl the critisism is very much deserved. I never asked for good writing for the final season because I know the writers will fail in that regard.
But atleast we could have had some focus. Instead half of the final season is a advertisement for Vought rising and the same old stalling.
The status quo problem hits this season the hardest because we went into with the expectation of three teams. Butcher, kill all Supes. Homelander and Vought, rule the world. Hughie and the Boys, stop both.
But Butcher still retains his humanity, he hasn't changed much. Starlight changed so much off screen that it feels like she skipped a season. Kimiko's dialogue is dog shit.
So far a solid 5.5/10.

My only criticism is the fact that the final season was advertised as scorched earth and seemingly fights but then Eric Kripke says it won't have much action, which it hasn't... but like, wtf are you talking about?
Though, I also do think part of this is a deliberate humiliation of Homelander because hes still thought as a good and badass character.
I genuinely wouldnt be surprised if his ending is getting crippled and powerless and getting cracked by terror lmao

The worst thing you can do in a story is make your main villain incompetent, unless you are making a funny children's movie.
Your antagonist is where the tension of the story is. A weak antagonist naturally results in a weak tension. Sure at the end you can makes villain pathetic, like Hans Landa. But only at the end.
This reminds me of Joker 2. Considering the director purposefully made the movie that way knowing it will be hated, he is never getting work in the industry again other than chump change projects.

He's an egotistical idiot who thinks he's a god and has the power to back it up(obvious analogue to current real-world situation aside), how is that not terrifying?

Well, to be fair, they arent making Homelander incompetent too much, but its not like he was truly competent anyhow. He was able to locate Bombsight after hearing about the necklace, and for now has seemingly won.
Its not like Homelander was scary and intimidating because of his competence, at least not to me. He is evil, cruel, and unpredictable with immense power, but no less hes always made terrible mistakes. I mean, a big part of the lore in general is vought needing to save supes asses 24/7.
Not to mention, we genuinely got to see Butcher scared after V1 was injected in HL. So, while I do think they are deliberately making HL worse in one aspect (more pathetic), they so far have managed to strike a good balance.

Let's take another character. Strongest of the verse, egotistical, idiot and thinks himself above everyone. Muzan.
What reputation does Muzan have again ? Right, one of the most disappointing villains and a example of how not to write a villain.
And if it wasn't for Anthony Star, Homelander would be right there with Muzan. The Boys is very much carried by it's phenomenal cast.
It's like Tom Hardy saved Venom, because he is Tom Hardy.

he doesn’t back anything up, all he does is kill nobodies and his own teammates, plus he gets a new weakness every couple episodes. last episode the dude got knocked outcold by some assbreath, and none of the boys have even died by his hands so why tf should the viewer fear him? because he starts tweaking out with violin music in the background? “whoa guys he’s gonna snap watch out whoaaa” then does nothing of note, repeat 20x lmao

Watching Gen V and I'm not sure if Marie is supposed to have the super strength and durability most Supes do. Like one moment she's fighting toe-to-toe with superhumans like Dogknott and surviving Homelander's HV and then she's getting cut by normal knives and random civilians can draw blood from her.

I think she's like, strong but not "invulnerable" in the same way as bulletproof supes. It's regen tax/Piccolo syndrome, which is to say they're more easily hurt because writers can show stakes/power easier by harming someone who the injuries won't affect much.

Is there any possibility of Kimiko or Butcher scaling to the hole Bombsight made when he arrived? I think its notable that neither of them went down in a single hit after he starts to fight them.

Butcher more consistently fights people like Homelander or soldier boy, and is far above the mid tier characters. Easily killed Neuman, almost did the same to Cindy
Kimiko seems to be far below them most of the time, and gets beaten by the Shapeshifter and challenged by Firecracker, both of which even Starlight easily beats

Butcher never directly fought homelander or Soldier Boy with these powers the best you can do is scale durability of taking homelander's HV seeing homelander as trying to kill.

Fair, I think that could make sense. He did throw the car at Soldier Boy, but I don’t recall that hurting him too too much

To loosen his grip. When the Deep first started choking him it was by strangling him with a cord, before stabbing him. If he immediately flew upward he could’ve disoriented the Deep, who can’t fly. He should have way more maneuverability in air compared to the Deep.

This is hilarious but true. Not going to get too political, but it’s funny how they pulled a Simpson’s and straight up predicted satire into reality. I had a jaw drop moment when the Homelander godhood storyline came around because of the timing. Had to remind myself it was written and filmed months in advance

I suppose that makes sense. Though I do think we should keep in mind that people don't act reasonably in these kinds of situations. Black Noir was probably under the impression Deep was too much of a little piss-boy to try to attack him, since every other time they interacted, Deep had just gone "I'm gonna tell the teacher!!!" He also probably wasn't considering combat physics when he did this. Remember, he wasn't a trained killer like the previous Noir. Until Season 4, he was just an actor, his only experience with killings would've been dramatic stage murders where people struggle and die slightly easier than he did.
Now, if we want to rewrite addressing this point, one way they could've written around this is right there in the Oh-Father scene, they could've had a joke where he's like "I can fly," and Oh-Father is like "You can fly?" and he's like "Yeah, I keep forgetting that." Or they could've used the narcolepsy. Remember the narcolepsy? OR maybe they could've gone into the method acting and have him get too into character, some identity issues where he gets himself and the original Noir mixed up on occasion. Like, maybe have a scene earlier on where he's surprised he doesn't heal from a wound as fast as Noir 1 would have, idk, so he forgets what he can and can't do sometimes. OR they could've just had him come in like "I just got back from this thing, I'm tired."

I would be annoyed, but like... I spent hours debating Temp-V Butcher vs Tumor Butcher with my friend, and he thought I was crazy for having Temp-V Butcher higher, and now I get to lord it over him that I was right, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

You are taking it out of context. The priest was desperate after the church was attacked, so he went to the only person he knows who is high in the vought corpo ladder. Plain and simple, he was desperate and Firecracker was the only potential door to save their church. '
As for Butcher, I was excepting him to be strong enough to survive Vought and dissuade Homelander from a outright fight because it would be too much effort. That way it would make sense for the season to last 8 episodes. But what we got was immense inconsistency.
He can take Heat vision and get up in a second. Said attack being the strongest in verse. (It cut Homelander's skin and Butcher's own equal power heat vision cut Soldier boy) But is knocked out by a attack from Bombsight. Let's be honest, we all know here that the only reason this happened is because they wanted to write Butcher out of the scene to give Soldier boy more screen time.
Plus he doesn't even use his powers that often. In the nursing home there was no need for him to do allat, one tendril each for the three hags and it would be over. But the CG budget went to the ballsack. And again, not using all 8 of his tendrils.

I think this is kinda fair. My problem is the sheer amount of time wasting on bringing in Noir II only to kill him off in a way he could’ve partially gotten out of. If he was a one episode only character I wouldn’t mind, but we got almost two seasons of him, which went nowhere, and we didn’t even get a cool fight out of it.
This is how I feel about Season 5, and the series as a whole reflecting back.

his intelligence hinges on how much plot armor the writers need to give the boys; realistically this show would not have gone 5 seasons if homelander was as sharp as he was in season 1, especially those last couple episodes when he made butcher look like a goof
