Yeah this may sound ridiculous, but there may be some FTL being in the Terraria. Basically the Martians in the Martian Madness event. When a martian probes detect a player, it flies in the air, off screen and then, the martians are summoned and start to appear. All this proccess take place in a few seconds, five at max.
The closest Mars can be from the Earth is 56 millions kilometers, so 56 000 000 000 meters. It takes light 186 seconds to do that. Considering that the martians does it in less than five seconds, but just let's assume it takes them 5 to do so, 186/5=37. So the ships who did this would be at the very least 37 times faster than light, so FTL+.
Even if this couldn't really applies to the martian themselves, the Player fight a Saucer and is able to keep up with it.
It is somewhat doubtable tho. Some people may think that them appearing instantly is just game mechanics, but others invasion actually takes some time to arrive, the Martian Madness is the only ones who appear instantly like that.
Also the Saucer may not actually be fighting with his full speed, due to the fact that it sometimes dash rapidly around the battlefield, but it could be just a small outburst of speed that cannot be used for long period of time. It could also be an extreme case of PIS from the Martians to not uses their FTL speed against the guy who murders their armies easily.
This is kinda doubtful, but I'm still putting it here. So, your opinion on the matters.
