Well the mistake you guys made was equalizing their speed because that's the only advantage Sonic and Tails have

Ok then my vote still goes to Mario and Luigi because of many reasons.
Physically Mario and Luigi are way stronger.
They may have slower running speed their reflexes are equal if not superior to Sonic and Tails speed
Mario and Luigi have more experience in terms of fighting because they have had adventures ever since the day they were born.
Even without power ups Mario can use his pyrokinesis and Luigi has electrokinesis.
Mario and Luigi are also much more durable

Then Sonic in his base is easily able to beat anyone cause he's toooooo fast
