Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

Also what is up with Yoshi and books? Yoshi's Story had the world get turned into a book by Bowser and you have to go through the pages, Yoshi's Universal Gravitation involved Yoshi getting stuck in a magic book by some ancient spirit, and now the new game has him going into a magic book again.

Also DK's tree house has the same pinup of Candy Kong that he had in DK64 but now it's signed lol. Something interesting is that it doesn't just take the old poster that uses her 64 design, it looks like a brand new render with some slight changes to her design, so seems like if she makes any future apperances they're gonna mostly use the 64 design.

Yoshi's busy with his new job as a wildlife researcher, so DK decided to do it this week.

Dk island is paid dlc, mushroom kingdom and luigis balloon world in odyssey was free. 20 dollars to just break stuff for maybe an hour. Not a campaign or anything. Just that.

Well it was mostly confirming release dates for stuff that was already announced some time ago. I was personally happy with the new Mario movie though. Still holding some hope a new "big" Mario game will be announced for the 40th anniversary.

It’s so goofy to me that a game originally called Yoshi’s Topsy Turvy got renamed to Yoshi’s Universal Gravitation in Europe

It was actually the other way around lol, US were the last ones to get the game and NOA changed the name to Topsy Turvy despite it originally being Universal Gravitation in EU and Japan.

Yeah as a heads up for anyone thinking of getting it the DLC seems to be pretty disappointing. Worth at least looking into whether it's worth before buying.

I have a ton of money leftover on my account due to my cousin getting me like 20 giftcards for xmas last year so I brought the DLC. DK island is cool and all but there's no reason to explore it, the emerald rush mode is actually really fun and I love it a lot but it's not anything substantial. If it was only like a fiver I think it'd be worth getting for anyone that really liked the base game, but 17 quid (or 20 bucks for you yanks out there) is too high a price. You're not missing out on much if you decide to skip it, as someone who has Banaza in their top 5 games of the year so far, I can't recommend buying the DLC.

WHAT I CAN RECOMMEND HOWEVER IS SILKSONG, BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!

Now I wish they never renamed it. Also 3-A base Mario cast confirmed oh my god

Just want an opinion, would it be worth placing Bowser's magic abilities in a seperate tabber? Just his inherent """normal""" abilities alone take up 50 bullet points worth of space and his list of magical powers isn't much lower than that.

yes

If it doesn't create too many layers of subtabbers, yeah

So since it's been brought up several times overthr last few months I wanted to just get my thoughts on Mario RPG scaling off my chest.

I do think the characters are stronger now then they were in, say, Mario 3, but it's not tier jump stronger. Like already mentioned we got Partners in Time blatantly treating the babies and adults as roughly on par, Yoshi's Island DS has the Yoshis being able to damage adult Bowser and yet Baby Bowser can still withstand attacks from those same Yoshis, New Island does show a bigger gap between Baby and Adult Boeser (In their normal forms anyway, giant forms are about on par) but Baby Bowser can still harm the same Yoshis that can withstand blows him his adult self. Hell, DS even shows Baby Bowser getting blasted by his adult versions fire breath and he was more annoyed by the attack then he was hurt, and Cranky Kong is portrayed as being out of his prime yet he's still comparable to current DK.

Maybe at best I could see a 6-A+ rating via downscaling from their current selves but nothing like, I dunno, Mario being wall level in Mario 1 then jumping to town level (Or whatever the castle punt was calced at) in Mario World.

I think they do get stronger just sort of in a hazy generic way. Like you can't really ever make the power jumps seen in the RPGs make sense in the greater context (unless you use equipment as an argument which maybe holds some merit, assuming they then ditch that equipment) but there's clearly some increase in strength. And you know the babies do scale to the adults but they're obviously tangibly weaker, they do like half as much damage in PiT. So it's fine to say the bros got a bit stronger throughout their adulthood, just not to the point of a tier jump.

Yeah if I were to put them all on a scale I'd say the babies are a 5, early games with the adults 10, and then currently post most of the RPG's and a few other games with strength increaes (Like Tennis Aces) they're around the 12-15 range. Definitely a difference in strength but like, it wouldn't justify making base characters multiversal after the events of Dream Team or something.

I guess my star child theory wasn't good enough.

What's our standards for dream worlds again? I know they can reach up to universal size like with future dream and subcon but do we assume the same for every universe? Because in Dream Team there's a segment about making a dream world bigger because it's too small to safely hide peach and the expansion includes making another island, which is a bit weird since if that dream world was already universe sized they wouldn't need to expand it for a relatively small amount of land.

Pretty sure it’s a case by case basis
