Speed equalization is not enough to save Dante here.

With their stats so close to one-another, the match can easily be decided by Spawn's A) far higher stamina and B) regen that doesn't deteriorate with loss of said stamina. (Unlike Dante's) In that particular case, the fight will only last as long as it takes for Spawn to wear him down to nothing.

However, if that isn't enough for you, Spawn has intangibility, telepathic teleportation of outside objects, pain manipulation (read: his ability to transfer the pain and suffering of the entire world to someone with a single touch), time-stopping, reality-warping and power nullification, none of which Dante has an answer for. Once Spawn starts up using those powers, this fight is going to turn brutal. Fast.

To recap, prettiest scenario? Dante gets outlasted. Ugliest scenario? Dante gets destroyed.

Uhh.....Dante doesn't have a counter to time stop when he himself has a timestop?

Anyway Spawn takes this handidly, unless Dante pulls out his time stop first which he might given Spawn isn't pathetic compared to every enemy Dante has fought, it's possible.

Meh, I forgot about the Bangle of Time. It's been a while since I fully analyzed Dante.

Anywho, Dante's only real chance is to stop time right out of the gate and go to work on Spawn with Yamato just about immediately. And since that's really out of his character (I can't recall him ever taking someone that seriously that fast, not after having only just met them), I'm still leaning heavily towards Spawn here.

Unlike Dante, I don't remember Spawn ever playing with his food. Chances are, he'll be in serious mode the moment the fight starts.

That's a very common misconception, fact is, Dante has never heard back against an opponent his level, sure he holds back against opponents who pose zero threat to him, but when faced with opponents who do such as Vergil, Mundus, Arkham and Abigail, he goes serious immediately, such as using DT on Abigail immediately after seeing his strength.

It all depends on who pulls time stop, as such, I'm inconclusive

In all of those fights, Dante knew about their power beforehand.

Against Arkham and Abigail, he had already seen some of what they could do (Arkham in a previous encounter, Abigail right before the fight), and Abigail had even done some boasting about his power right before the two clashed.

Against Mundus, he knew of his powers just on general principle.

Against Vergil, he already had plenty of experience due to the two having fought against (and before that, alongside) each other numerous times. The only person outside of Dante who's that familiar with Vergil's power is Vergil himself.

He does not have that going for him here. He'll have just met Spawn in this fight, and would thus know nothing about him going into this. And unlike numerous opponents Dante's fought in the past, Spawn does not boast.

Another thing; Dante's only option here involves using his time-stop. Spawn has that, plus the options of A) reality-warping his way to victory, or B) depowering Dante.

If Spawn does either of those before Dante can time-stop, he won't get the chance to do so. He'll be dead before he can.

1. Both Dante and Vergil were heavily weakened by their fight so all Dante got was Arkham wasn't weak, after all he stomps Jester multiple times in game so...

2. Vergil part doesn't really make sense when you realize Dante was going all out by the first fight. "How to hold back, swing so hard and so fast raindrops get destroyed."

That said, I'm voting spawn for reasons above.
