Cronus' main way of beating him last time was that "instant" move he had (as far as I remember, anyways), but Sonic's Conceptual Manip was upgraded since then. I'll hold off in the match for now and come back in a bit.

Yeah I don't think Cronus is bypassing Sonic's resistance to conceptual manipulation/existence erasure. He didn't have that at the time the first match was posted. Saint Seiya conceptual manipulation is type 3 while Sonic has and resists type 2.
