base sonic can be VERY inconsistent some times for example:

being able to harm tabuu.

being able to harm time eater.

being able to survive hits from time eater... TWICE!

being able to fight infinite who was powered by the phantom ruby, classic sonic needed the chaos emeralds just to defeat the heavy king who was also powered by the ruby (his super state is equal to modern sonic's) but modern sonic didn't.

base sonic defeating perfect chaos (there may of been some kind of power increase for sonic but for now it's just an inconsistency).

classic sonic one shotting chaos 0 while tails just sits there and exposes himself as a p****

this one isn't really about inconsistency but in Sonic Adventure DX for some reason dr eggman was stupid enough to drop robots which can freeze chaos 6, it felt like he was blatantly helping sonic.

there are a lot as you can see.
