SERIOUS* Creating profile for chess pieces

I’m planning on creating profiles for the chess pieces. I would like to create them on this wiki since I’m not aware if the pieces in the games should be considered just 10-C chess pieces, regular humans or if pieces like knight should be considered a horse. Chess also has countless different variants which will lead to challenges of if it can be added to vs battles wiki.

This post is made for collecting advices of abilities that can be added or feats of the chess pieces.

should we do a verse profile for them?

Also ig we should treat them as real things (knights, towers etc...) so we can get a real rating for the stuff they scale for.

For abilities however ig they would have these:

  1. Superhuman Physical Characteristics (all of the pieces can harm each other and keep up with the knight speed)
  2. Resurrection (pawns can take the form of varius dead pieces)
  3. Power bestowal (same reason)
  4. Statistic Amplification (Always for pawns)
  5. Acrobatics (Knights can to big ass jumps on the board)
  6. Weapon mastery (Knights should be using weapons, as you know they are knights)

For stats however i guess small building level/building level (they can all kill the Tower) and Superhuman speed (they can keep up with the knight who's riding an horse) other pieces that have more mobility than the knight (the tower, the queen etc...) could get subsonic speed as they can reach the end of the board instantly.

I belive stuff like killing the tower or the speed to reach the end of the board shoud be done as calcs to be sure.

Since the Pawn attacks diagonally, even though it typically moves only 1 square at a time, shouldn't it attacking count as short-burst movement speed or reaction/combat speed?

Also, since all the pieces can theoretically fight one another, and they can attack while physically moving, should we scale everyone's combat/reactions to the Queen's movement speed? Or do we not count that for the same reason we don't say a Goomba is as strong as Mario, despite killing him in gameplay?

Does En Passant count as a blitz due to kinda being like that one anime trope of "guy runs over to other guy, other guy swings his katana, first guy stands still a bit before revealing he was slashed", or am I reading too far into things?

ig we are giving them something like normal mele range

I think it's fine if we do it like in only reaction speed, and i don't see much of a chainscale considering all the pieces posses the same ap feats.

Didn't know of that rule (i'm pretty casual at chess), i don't think that was the intention of chess, as it looks more of a rule tecnicality than a speedbliz.

The Knight is capable of moving 1 space to the side, and 2 forward
sqrt(1^2 + 2^2) = 2.2360679775 tiles
The maximum distance a Rook can move is 7 tiles
7/2.2360679775 = 3.1304951685x faster
Speed of horse: 27.5 mph or 12.2936 m/s
12.2936 * 3.1304951685 = 38.4851 m/s (Subsonic)

Since the Rook is clearly meant to be some kind of a tower capable of protecting other pieces, but is still able to move around and junk, I'll assume it to be a siege tower, specifically one similar in size and weight to the Greek Helepolis, which weighed around 150 metric tons
150000/2 * 38.4851^2 = 111082719.151 joules or 0.0265 Tons of TNT (9-A)

Disagree with resurrection. Pawns don't revive pieces, they become them. We know this because:
A. Pawns can become pieces like the queen, even if both queens are still on the board.
B. The Pawn disappears after promoting; if they're just reviving a dead teammate, where do they go?
C. It's called "Promoting", which implies it's the same piece.
D. And if it is resurrection, then Power Bestowal and Statistics amplification should go away because they're bringing in a returning piece, not amping themselves.

Also it should be limited ower Bestowal and Statistics amplification, since they have to get to the other side of the board to promote.

Agree that everyone should scale to each other, but how do people feel about inverse upscaling/downscaling based on point value? Ex: Queen > Rook > Knight = Bishop > Pawn.

eh, fair enough

En Passant is only possible if the other Pawn moved two spaces on the previous turn, indicating timing.
It's kind of a blitz, since the other Pawn can't react, but it's due to their short-burst two tile jump being too fast, rather than the En Passant being an amp.
Chess is about tactics and predicting the next move, so Masked assumes that Pawns simply have a short-burst travel speed that exceeds their reactions, and can be taken off-guard by precise timing. The fact that they can only perform this two tile jump at the beginning of the game also indicates a limitation, which Masked interprets as a problem with Stamina. This might also count as Analytical Prediction for Pawns.

Castling should also probably be noted as a team tactic for the King and Rook.

i think that mostly comes to travel speed and abilities at best as "best chess piece" is mostly subjective due of game mechanics rather than lore

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than what I proposed

wait, does chess qualify for a verse for vsbw? i heared there are some reatrictions for what can be put here

Welcome to the Joke Battles forum.
If you read the OP, you can see a list of the challenges they would face if they wanted it on the main wiki.
As such, Chess probably can't be added to VSBW, but it can be added here on Joke Battles.

I mean, the only 2 things holding chess back are the lack of any real lore or plot, and the fact that there are so many different versions of chess (though we could use the standardized version professional chess players use)

Then again, although I don't necessarily like the practice, we have allowed games that don't have a proper plot, being more basic PvP with some item and ability descriptions thrown in here and there, so I don't think it's TECHNICALLY disallowed on the main site, so if we really wanted to, we could, yk...

Sure, (still feels weird to have a hypothetical profile that scales Pawns and Queens to the exact same value with no upscaling or downscaling, but eh)

Honestly just classifying as "Classic chess" looks like the better choice here, altho i don't think we need much for the summary section, we could just put "one of the most popular strategic games in the world, the goal is for the opposite team to capture the king" this is really approximated but it should come out as something of this type on my opinion.

Just gave a quick look at the rules, i think chess should be good here as there isn't anything that shouldn't make it good for verse creation.
