Saint Seiya Discussion Thread (IV)

sick of manhawas ... started somewhere in between cause idk in what order to read them

seiya g assassin is a 8-9/10 for me
lost canvas 6/10

pretty cool so far.

G and G Requiem soon

is the author a fan of drag queens? asking due art styles xD

What are your thoughts on Next Dimension?

as a big fan of greek and roman mythology, the biggest downside was apollo, it sucks that someone with such a cool name and the meaning behind it ... hes just another olympian

nothing really special about that guy compared to how I imagined him

i think i will be pretty busy the next days/weeks -
original saint seiya and santia shoe

Are you planning on watching Overture movie?

We can give you a chronological reading order if you ever want.

yeah pls im ******* sick of manhwas ihmo the prime era of it is gone, and most of them are ZZzz levels and repetitive as hell. it gets worse once yulu see that every protagonist just happens to be tall, skinny with black hair :D

there are like a dozen manga and anime version of ss with different authors

the downside of mangas are ... no colors which enchants the reading expierence. the only option are comics but ive no idea where to start, and no amount of money will ever let me read a novel :D

Aight so chronologically , Lost canvas(takes place 200 years before the original story), then Episode G(Takes place 7 years before the original story) then the original Manga(which takes place in 1990 btw), then Saintia Sho(happens around the same time as the original stories beginning), Golden Age (a short story taking place around the mid point of the original Manga) Time Oddysey (takes place at various points of the original story. It’s not finished yet), Rerise of Poseidon (Takes place inbetween the end of the original story and beginning of Next Dimension. Also not done yet. Seems to be wrapping up though), Next Dimension (Takes place days after the main story, but also 200 years in the past), Episode G Assassin (roughly a few decades after next dimension. It’s at least 2012 at this point.), and finally Episode G Requiem (Takes place a couple years after Assassin, although requiem is not done yet.)
Saint Mariya (takes place in an alternate Future of the Classic manga. It’s basically Magical Girl Saint Seiya and also not finished.)
Dark Wings takes place in an alternate universe in the 21st century.

However, the only ones I’d really recommend in any particular order are the original story first just to have the main context of the world and world building, then the Episode G Trilogy which is designed to be read in chronological order. Lost canvas and Saintia sho have their own side stories which are worth checking out afterwards. Personally I really like the Lost Canvas ones. I doubt you’ll find a translation for the Saintia Sho ones tho. Everything else tends to kind of do it’s own thing, and so it can be read in any order as long as you read the original manga.

Next dimension and lost canvas happen at the same time in different timelines. However Next dimension is also a sequel to the original manga because time travel.

As for the anime, it’s relatively simple. The original anime had 3 big arcs. They are the 12 temples, Asgard, and Poseidon. The first movie, Saint Seiya the Movie, takes place vaguely before the 12 Temples I believe. Then there is Heated Battle of the Gods, which takes place after the 12 Temples. Then there is Legend of the Crimson Youth, which is around the same time as Asgard and Poseidon. The 4th movie, Warriors of the Final Holy Battle, takes place after Poseidon.

The Saintia Sho Anime is just bad so ignore it. Manga good tho.

Then there is the Saint Seiya Hades OVAs, which take place after that. Taking place at the ending of those Ovas becuase of time dilation something, is the series Soul of Gold. That is followed by the final anime Movie, Heaven Chapter Overture.

A few decades later is Saint Seiya Omega. It has a video game of dubious canonicity but I think you can live without. This is pretty much the entire main anime experience.

There is a Live Action Movie. It’s ok I guess. There is also a 3D animated Netflix Reboot. It’s ok ig as well. There is also another CGI movie taking place in its own universe called Legend of Sanctuary, it’s honestly pretty awesome.

this is more of a newbie take since me havent read all of SS, but as a big fan of greek/roman mythology, i have a feeling many actions by the gods in this universe seem emotionally charged or motivated in some way. if its really based on greek mythology etc. such a cool detail would be pretty dope.

One thing I like about ss is its showcase of power :D I mean, if a verse has multiple timelines and characters who can survive in space, why doesnt the author( especially end of series) show at least a universe destroying power? Like in OPM, it would be disappointing if the end of opm doesnt show something that can destroy a universe, especially since opm has time travel and can preserve the universe.

im not a big manga reader as of now, but the ones im into right now are

Eden zero: Shiki flew across the universe in seconds, and we got a quantified statement about the amount of energy required to make the universe disappear XD

SS thanks to some powerscaling comments ive read back then

... dont get me wrong, im not trying to downplay mangas :D its not like manhwas are any better when it comes to pure destructive power^^ Its just cool when whats shown matches the statements

hey your ss noob is here

is this here legit?

"Sanctuary dictionary. About Saint Seiya.

Popular fighting comic book by Masami Kurumada published in serial form from 1985 to 1990 in the Weekly Shonen Jump. Almost at the beginning of the publications, the animation projects were advanced and the character design of the anime was taken care of by Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno known for their beautiful touches. The TV series was broadcasted for two and a half years (114 episodes), and 4 movies were also broadcasted on top of that.

In 2002 the series was brought back in anime with OVAs constituting the final chapter, the one about Hades, broken down in 4 parts. During the broadcast of the Hades chapter, the Tenkai-hen Joso, its sequel, was shown to the public. Saint Seiya Omega is the sequel (lit: next chapter of the story) of these works.

In the opening credits of Omega, there is a scene that uses a drawing of Mr. Araki and Mrs. Himeno who left a great imprint in the series, where in the first episode, both their names are credited

Even though Sojiro is stated to be the strongest, that doesn’t really make any sense as he’s not BB level and if renge is as strong as a god. I’m thinking the other golds don’t know how strong he really is

Hey guys, so is anybody working on merging the manga - anime canons? I believe it would be a quite simple job of simply adding in the relevant proof from dark wings, and changing a few parts as Unshakeables current blog is still quite good apart from the section about what’s crosscalable between anime and manga.

As for a list of exact changes, dark wings has several pages that clearly show the existence of the multiverse discussed within the blog, so adding scans would be highly useful. Among these are pages showing Hilda, Odin, Mars, and Saturn (possibly G aiolia too).

The addition of Saint Mariya and Kurus comment that this is the first time he does a girls manga is probably important.

We need to nuke section 6. Anime and Manga seperation for obvious reasons.

We will have to discuss how the Anime has a Hades true body and the manga also has a hades true body. My current theory is that Hades has one true body per universe, and naturally exists more like the soul Athena took the form of during her talk with shouchiro, Sojiro, pandora, and catteleya. I think this quite reasonable personally.

If nobody is, I’d be happy to do it. We will also have to update the Cosmo blog with 8th sense powers from Rrop, Power of Omega stuff added to Miracles, and some miscellaneous abilities from the anime, such as longevity, and time resistances.

Agreed.

So Hyoga froze Shuns cosmo chains in the most recent GR chapter, didn't think you could freeze non-physical stuff.

I thought Hyoga has done that atleast once in the whole franchise? (Or is my memory tripping)
I don't recall. I know Camus has frozen dunamis which is absolute nothingness/chaos, Camus at the time didn't even have AZ so Hyoga would naturally scale above that.

Omega hyoga has frozen space time on a way where it could not be destroyed although that was with beyond AZ. And early hyoga has frozen fire, which is just energy. Aquarius Tristan has just used freezing coffin on souls. Next rrop chapter I bet isaak is going to go beyond AZ and remove zero point energy

I don't recall. I know Camus has frozen dunamis which is absolute nothingness/chaos, Camus at the time didn't even have AZ so Hyoga would naturally scale above that.
That seems a little contradictory for basically every prominent ice user to be able to do that though, since literally every one of them has AZ, even sanc camus

Well for below AZ ice being able to freeze the energy source of the gods is just strange in my head. i don’t have a real argument for it
