I've been on VSBW for so many years yet I forget that the P&A CRT is a thing despite participating in those threads. Anyway, I think we never properly went through what the Book of Transcendence/Foundations is capable of. So, I think now's the best time to go through what it can do since we had 2 story modes where the Book was a major factor. Let's go through all this in chronological order.
- Text Manipulation: At the start of History Mode, Hagoromo says "A calamity has befallen the river of time. An incident affecting the course of human history. That is to say... the erasure of history. A Ninja World with no history is no Ninja World. A Ninja World with no history is devoid of humanity. The Book Of Transcendence which you composed long ago now lies forgotten and unknown. History must be resurrected. Yet to accomplish this, we require a foundation whereupon its path will be retraced. Therefore, we shall weave this foundation together. We must once again set to paper the verses of this long-forgotten book." From this, we learn that the BOT contains all the events of the games recorded in text form. We see at the start of the game that history is being erased due to a calamity in the river of time, we are then immediately shown that this calamity is the verses in the Book of Transcendence leaving the book and disappearing into the air. This, along with the fact that Hagoromo mentions setting to paper the 'verses', means that the altering of text can outright affect reality.
- Existence Erasure: As seen above, the removal of text from the BOT can erase history and all included within it, leaving nothing behind, and is also referred to as "erasure of history" by Hagoromo.
- Restoration: By the end of History Mode, both Hagoromo and Jiraiya are able to restore history with the new Book of Foundations. Hagoromo also stated that "History's foundation has been restored" meaning it was restored to its previous self which is further supported by his statement of resurrecting history.
- Time Manipulation: As stated above, the BOT is capable of "affecting the course of human history" and is the calamity that has befallen the river of time.
- Plot Manipulation: Links to Text Manipulation, changes to the text can change the story that was recorded in the book. Boruto changing the past completely removed the events of the Special Story and Nanashi's history which was recorded in the BOF.
- Time Travel: During Special Story Mode, to retrieve Naruto's memories and change Nanashi's past, Toneri can use the BOF to send Boruto to the past, with these changes affecting the present time.
- Memory Manipulation: While inside the BOF, Boruto can retrieve the memories of Naruto as memory fragments.
- Limited Power Nullification: Memories released from the BOF were able to undo the effects of the Engraved Tsukuyomi, which put the entire world under genjutsu.
