Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 4 is Real

Witch of Envy sandbox. She's a lot more important, so I figured I'd link it here for suggestions while it's still unfinished.
This looks great. For stamina, I agree that a possibly infinite rating would be good. I don't think there's an explicit enough statement to drop the "possibly" though.

Also under the notable attacks section Shamak and Shadow Manipulation should be merged into one. It would probably be good to add a section on her time manipulation as well.

New Petra key when
"Witch of Tristitia" key soon actually. Well, I would rather WCT translate Sasageru IF first, but I'm not sure if her abilities are so complicated as to require getting into the nitty-gritty, so the current TL may be fine.

Ignoring arc 9 stuff, she gains flying magic, can force a million seconds of nothingness onto people with Compress Agony, has gotten good at tracing magic signatures, and she has a few more vows to Od Lagna.

I know Garcar is working on getting it fully translated so it shouldn't take years this time lol. Though there's a non-zero chance someone insists on proofing it and it gets stuck there for ages again. Maybe once Garcar finishes the initial tl we can just see if it gets stuck after that point 💀

I have more hope for WN stories (Though still no Iris and the King of Thorns or Azamuku, sad) than I do for comic alive and the like. OUATIL II seems very interesting even just from a shitty MTL. But it may just be more realistic to wait for yenpress, since whoever is doing the Tanpenshuus there seems better than the main story.

Echidna and Roswaal revamps are such terrifying looming projects. They're so cool but they can do so much that it pisses me off. Plan right now is:
  1. Pray Aldebaran CRT concludes.
  2. Sort out the Witch of Envy.
  3. Sort out either Puck or Rem, whichever isn't done will decide what's done afterwards.
  4. Sort out either Emilia or Ram, whichever one is done prior decides who's first.
  5. Sort out Beatrice, and then Subaru (intimidating, might make this more of a group project bc I feel he will piss me off somehow).
  6. Sort out the Archbishops in order: Gluttony brothers, Sirius, Petelgeuse, Capella, Stride.
  7. Imagine Omega in Wonderland & Witch Trials getting translated so I can work on the six Witches, then crying and sorting out Volcanica instead.
  8. Sort out Reid even though I don't like him.
Note: This is subject to whims and I may completely invert the order for no reason. Or do something entirely different if Season 4 or Arc 10 sparks inspiration, maybe a Julius or Marcos or Crusch revision then!

We are going to eventually have to have some uncomfortable conversations about Roswaal and Echidna, at least when talking about their speed.

Arc 8 just makes it incredibly incredibly clear that Echidna simply outclasses Roswaal. He has learned everything spell she knew aside from Ol Shamak and healing magic and he has learned some spells and techniques she didn't know but he cannot use a spell like Al Shario effortlessly like she can. It places a significant amount of strain on his body. And his perception/combat speed is far far far inferior.

Echidna simply outclasses Roswaal
I'd also point to chapters 55 and 56 of arc 9. Aldebaran can't do anything to Echidna in a 1v1 with his Domain, so much so that he gets stuck and Aggressor activates, which also does nothing to her. Meanwhile he confidently states he'll defeat Roswaal if Petra summons him, despite him losing control over Aggressor and fearing what could happen if Petra was selected again.
He had slashed at the completely altered Witch of Greed, demanding that she return the Witch he knew.

Having launched attacks on her from every conceivable direction, when his creativity and trial and error had proven completely ineffective, what sprouted within Aldebaran was a skepticism towards his Authority, and as if to prove that, the bug surfaced.
Meili was accompanied by numerous Witchbeasts, and Roswaal possessed monster-tier firepower that he had even let loose back in the Empire, so Aldebaran believed they were both highly possible.

But, none of them would provide anything more than being strong and formidable.

The fact that Aldebaran could not be driven into a corner with mere numbers or strength had been made very apparent up to this point. If that had been her aim, it could only be described as short-sighted――,

Roswaal might actually be a fraud...

Roswaal can use all forms of magic, and has the Flow Method, but he only ever beats up Ram in volume 15 and spams fire magic. Meanwhile Echidna does nonsense like setting space-shattering explosions or making a laser-mirror storm combo. Even when she chooses to use pure force, she drops a star from the sky.

Though I do love how hard Re:Zero magic is. Advanced stuff practically requiring multiple brains and using insane imagery to put the difficulty into perspective. And Roswaal is pretty much The Guy for that sort of narration.

Roswaal's ability to cast 5 Al class spells at once is genuinely an impressive feat and something I think Echidna would need to practice quite a bit more to do but overall I do think Echidna is pretty clearly stronger. Roswaal is just the sixfold magic merchant. That's his unique specialty.

Will Petra receive Causality Manipulation on her profile? Given that her ability literally skips straight to the result (effect) without going through the process (cause) first it’s exactly like King Crimson erasing the timeframe in which an event occurs

Re:Zero mage vs A certain cientific railgun esper, who uses more brainpower on average?
Bonus round: Echidna vs Accelerator pre-brainshot

King Crimson having it is a pretty strong precedent, since this particular application of their abilities is essentially the exact same aside from Petra being able to skip greater lengths of time. I would definitely say she will get that.

I mean, it's pretty clear, right? Trisitia teleportation isn't even literal teleportation in the usual sense. It's just distance and time compression, so they just pop over to the goal since the travel gap is literally squeezed out of existence. Sure, it’s called 'Teleportation,' but the main power here is straight-up Causality Manipulation.
Clind: [Although the number of times it has been used and the number of people who have tried it are not that many, no one has fallen ill. Reassurance. Strictly speaking, the Authority of Tristitia is not Teleportation, but rather the result of the Compression of the time and distance that would normally be traveled. Abridgment.]

Meili: [I have no idea what that means, no matter how many times I hear i~t.]

“Subaru”: [So, does that mean it’s okay to think of it like King Crimson? No, it’s unclear whether it erases even the effects in between, so maybe it’s different from King Crimson.— Arc 9 Chapter—34.

Why is every single comment just mfs calling it hell or warning people for their mental state 😭
When this chapter was published in the webnovel, Tappei got pestered for a content warning so much that he added a "disturbing content, viewer discretion is advised" message to it. But he added it to the end of the chapter, rendering the warning useless, because he's a troll.

Typical Tappei :ROFLMAO:

Wait you're not supposed to read the novel chapters backwards like the manga???

I am also eagerly looking forward to the reactions tomorrow, people were already getting shocked last episode.

Not sure if anything will ever compare to the reactions from season 1 episode 15 though.
