Q: I hear that Typhon, the Witch of Pride, often plays with Carmilla and Sekhmet, but what kind of games do they play? I can't think of a game that would satisfy Typhon...
A: That would definitely be a "high-five" (laughs).
Sekhmet can do an amazing "high-five" while lying down, so she probably tosses Typhon hundreds of meters into the air, and she falls down laughing.
Carmilla likes sewing and making stuffed animals, so she makes things like that for her, and I think Typhon plays with them by tearing them to shreds. Every time Carmilla sees this, she goes "Oh..." but then makes another stuffed animal.
As a result of emotional development issues, Typhon is mentally immature for her age. She's actually a little younger than Petra, but her games are geared towards kindergarteners or early elementary school children. Unfortunately, there's no room for her mental development, so I think that's why she plays like that.
But Carmilla doesn't seem to mind, and Sekhmet treats Typhon like a daughter, so I think they're all having fun as a family.
Q: In Arc 9, the battle between the Witch of Envy and Reinhard, which was said to be unresolved, unfolded. But even Reinhard, in that severely injured state, would he have eventually fallen and lost?
A: I've noticed a bug in Reinhard's Divine Protection of the Phoenix, but when he revives with the Divine Protection of the Phoenix, he revives with full HP and MP. If you're about to be defeated, just give yourself a little "whoosh," and you won't lose!
Q: Do the four strongest people from each country know each other? If so, what are their impressions of each other?
A: You foresaw what I'm going to write in Sasageru√!? (laughs)
I wrote about Reinhard and Cecilus in a side story, and they are acquainted. (Ex4 The Travelogue of the Finest). Cecilus and Halibel know each other. Reinhard and Halibel do not know each other. The "Mad Prince" is imprisoned, so he doesn't know anyone. But if they did meet, I have a feeling they could all get along on the surface.
Q: Starting with Petra in Arc 9, the way you depict the feelings of female characters is incredibly detailed and surprising, especially considering you're a male author. I think Emilia is your favorite female character, but if you were a woman, which male character would you choose to date?
A: I understand a girl's heart, so who would I want to date from a girl's perspective!? (laughs)
I'm the author of Re:Zero, so I know the good and bad points of all the characters... Who would it be? There's the system of adding points and subtracting points, right?
...Then Garfiel, right? (laughs)
He's just such a good kid, he has so much potential for growth, and he's so devoted. I can't think of anything but good things about him! I can think of a few bad things about all the other characters, especially when it comes to romance. But I can only think of good things about Garfiel.
In the Comic Alive short story I'm writing right now, Garfiel is just showing off all his good points. Garfiel is the best. Ram should choose Garfiel!! (laughs)
Q: Regarding Arc 9, who was the longest-lasting member of the Aldebusters to withstand the bug in Al's Domain?
A: Definitely Ram. It was Old Man Rom who left the clue, which became Petra's motivation to keep trying, but it was Ram who held out the longest.
Q: In the bonus novel, it was revealed that one of the five great nations that once existed was "Magrizza," but could you tell us any information you have about it?
A: Magrizza was a horrible country.
There was a huge gap between the rich and the poor, and there was a value system where those who could use magic were considered superior and those who couldn't were considered inferior.
At the time, when Magrizza was still around, there were heroes who traveled the world, and among them was a girl named Echidna. This girl was incredibly skilled at magic. She was treated very well.
On the other hand, there was someone named Reid, and this guy couldn't use any magic at all. So I wonder what Magrizza was going to do about that? (laughs). I might have the opportunity to write an episode related to "Magrizza's Guillotine" in the future.
Q: Are the names of the Sin Archbishops True Names recognized by Od Lagna? Or were they changed later in life?
A: Basically, they're taken after.
However, "Regulus" is a True Name and "Capella" is a pseudonym, so there are other patterns.
The Witch Factor is outside the scope of Od Lagna's observation, and the rules that apply to those who have the Witch Factor are slightly different, so if the Book of the Dead is going to appear or not, what names will appear... I can't answer that at this point. But there are a lot of names that were added later!
Q: In Sasageru√, Reinhard was in a bit of a difficult situation, is that something that could happen in the main story as well?
A: That could happen in the main story too.
Q: I can imagine, but... who is the man you would least want to date?
A: Regulus.
There's no other choice (lol). Regulus is the most morally bankrupt man I can imagine. I can't be with someone without morals. I think Regulus would be the one to make me the most unhappy if I dated him and married him.
Q: I'm a huge fan of Clind, and I'm curious about the story in Sasageru Route where Clind is drowning in alcohol. When Clind gets drunk, is he the type to forget his memory, get high, or start crying his eyes out?
A: As a dragonkin, he really enjoys alcohol. I think he's quite a heavy drinker as a Dragon, so getting drunk is quite a challenge.
When drunk, he becomes silent and mutters something funny.
Q: I think Reinhard didn't know how to control his strength when he was a child, so could you tell us about any episodes where he messed up as a child?
A: Even more than beating his dad at the age of five? (laughs) That episode alone was quite a blunder. He was stronger than his dad when he was five.
Q: Are powerful characters like Emilia and Sirius, who can handle both physical and magical abilities at a high level, considered rare in the Re:Zero world?
A:Yes, they tend to focus on one or the other.
If you try to make use of your physical abilities, your Mana will naturally grow in that direction. With magic, physical abilities tend to be neglected.
Roswaal is also a martial artist, so he's a special type. Magic users usually go in the direction of Ezzo (developing only magical skills).
Q: In Arc 9, Petra received the baptism of Al's Authority, but Imaginary Subaru didn't seem to have any mental breakdown. Was it because he was imaginary that he seemed fine? Or was it because he was "Natsuki Subaru"?
A: Because he was Natsuki Subaru.
Also, Petra's image of Natsuki Subaru, that "Natsuki Subaru won't be broken by this," might be another reason.
Q: What was the childhood of the first Sword Saint, Reid Astrea-sama, and Toska Astrea like? Were the two of them close?
A: I think they got along well.
Toska Astrea, who appeared in a past Blu-ray bonus novel, is Reid's younger brother. Reid is as you see him, but Toska is a fine young man who doesn't seem like Reid's brother at all. Toska is also quite a monster, having lived for about 150 years, but Reid basically has a personality like Gian, so if something displeases him he'll immediately resort to violence, and his lashes are often more forceful than he thinks, so he tends to push people away quite often. His younger brother Toska has been used to being hit since he was little and was even able to catch the fists that came flying at him. And Reid is like, "If it doesn't hit, that's fine," so their close relationship works because Toska is more mature than Reid (lol).
Q: Who is the smartest character in the story? I'm also curious about the character who is most knowledgeable about the history of Lugunica!
A: Abel and Chisha are pretty high on the list, and if we're talking about Lugunica, Miklotov and Russel are high up there. Well, Echidna is smart, but she's a bit ditzy, so I think she'd be a notch below them. Roswaal is also pretty smart, but he also has a stupid side, doesn't he (laughs)? Abel also has a stupid side... so maybe Chisha. I think Chisha is the smartest!
The character who is most knowledgeable about the history of Lugunica, simply put, is Miklotov-san. It's debatable whether Old Man Rom is an expert, but he's simply lived a long time, so he knows a lot. The same goes for Clind-san.
Q: In Sasageru√, everyone who sided with Aldebaran was executed, right? Please tell me how Heinkel was executed.
A: Even Heinkel would starve to death.
I'll leave Reinhard to your imagination, but I think he's pretty much what you'd expect.
