With each hack, thrust, or block, he consciously tried to resonate with relevant Concepts. [Impact] during a heavy slash. [Flow] during a parry or circular movement. [Stability] when holding a defensive stance. [Sharpness] with every cutting motion.
In a quiet courtyard, under Fu Hua's occasional, approving observation, Wilhelm began practicing the Basic Sword Technique: the twelve core movements – hacking, slashing (multiple variations), lifting, blocking, washing (a circular deflection), cutting, stabbing, stirring (a disrupting circular motion), pressing, hanging (a defensive posture), cloud (fluid, evasive movements).
Lucian felt Wilhelm experience Fang Xingjian practicing these same twelve basic moves, over and over. Not flashy, not complex, but executed with such precision and focus that the simple wooden sword tore through the air with thunderous booms, implying immense power generated purely through perfected biomechanics and intent. He felt Fang Xingjian's satisfaction as he executed a simple cross-slash, leaving deep, clean marks in the ground as if carved by an axe – proof of power derived from perfect form, not material strength. He felt Fang Xingjian's mindset: 'As long as I train in enough sword techniques, my strength will continue to increase endlessly.' A belief in cumulative mastery through dedicated practice. He also felt the effect of a 'Genius Swordsmanship' specialty – becoming one with the sword, every movement natural as breathing. While Wilhelm didn't possess that specific 'specialty', the feeling of perfect unity resonated with the 'One With the Spear' concept Seol Jihu sought.
He looked at the wooden sword. He executed a simple Chop again. This time, he didn't just focus on the angle, the speed, the muscle contraction. He focused on the intent – to cut, cleanly, decisively. He tried to feel the Concept of [Sharpness], to harmonize his movement with the air's resistance instead of fighting it, to pour his will into the simple wooden edge.
The resulting sound wasn't a thunderclap, nor did space crack. But the movement felt different – smoother, more focused, carrying a subtle weight, an authority, that hadn't been there before.
<The Concept of [Tea],> Teatus's essence resonated, no longer just calm, but filled with the weight of millennia of slow growth and quiet contemplation. <It is more than mere leaves and water. It is ritual. It is patience. It is clarity found in stillness. It is connection shared over warmth. Your understanding is analytical, sharp, but lacks depth, lacks harmony. Prove you grasp the soul of the Brew, not just its formula.>
Lucian felt the challenge. This wasn't about power levels or combat skills. It was a battle of understanding, fought with pure conceptual force. He focused his own core Concepts: [Analysis], [Logic], [Exploit], [Chaos], [Adaptation], even the [Thunder] and [Fire] he'd been practicing.
He projected [Analysis] first, trying to deconstruct Teatus's conceptual form, find weaknesses in its structure of [Tranquility] and [Growth]. The Guardian's essence simply absorbed the analysis, like a deep pool swallowing a pebble, its calm unwavering.
Teatus countered, projecting waves of pure [Tranquility]. Lucian felt his racing thoughts slow, his analytical processes becoming sluggish, a deep urge to simply float peacefully washing over him. He fought back, forcing his [Logic] Concept forward, creating mental firewalls, analyzing the [Tranquility] wave, trying to find a counter-frequency. "Inefficient! Must maintain processing speed!"
He tried projecting [Chaos], hoping to disrupt the Guardian's serene stability. Wisps of unpredictable energy, visualized as glitching code or rapidly shifting possibilities, shot towards Teatus. The Guardian responded by projecting [Growth] and [Time (Cyclical)]. The chaotic energy didn't shatter the calm; it was absorbed, integrated, its erratic patterns smoothed out into the slow, steady rhythm of growth and decay, becoming part of the Guardian's natural cycle. Lucian felt like he'd thrown static at a noise-canceling algorithm.
"Your methods are quick, sharp, disruptive," Teatus resonated, not unkindly. "But [Tea] endures. It finds balance. It incorporates, it mellows, it transforms through patience, not force."
Lucian realized his approach was fundamentally wrong. Trying to 'exploit' or 'disrupt' the Concept of Tea was like trying to hack a river's flow – you could create temporary ripples, but the underlying current remained. He needed to engage with it on its own terms.
He shifted his focus. He recalled the feeling of quiet focus during his foundational spear practice, the moments of clarity achieved through intense meditation trying to harmonize Thunder and Fire. He projected not [Analysis], but [Focus]. Not [Chaos], but [Adaptation]. He tried to resonate with the [Clarity] aspect within the Brew's concept, seeking understanding rather than dominance.
He felt Teatus's essence respond, not with opposition, but with a gentle invitation. He felt the slow, steady rhythm of [Growth], the deep peace of [Tranquility], the sharp clarity born from [Time] and starlight. He didn't try to break it down; he allowed himself to feel it, to harmonize with it.
He projected his understanding of the brewing process – the careful balance of [Water] and [Heat], the precise timing, the respect for the leaf – not as data, but as intent, as appreciation.
Teatus's essence pulsed gently. « You begin to understand. The Brew is not merely consumed; it is experienced. Its strength lies not in instant power, but in cultivated clarity. »
Lucian felt a shift. He wasn't fighting the Guardian anymore; he was participating in a conceptual 'tea ceremony'. He offered his [Analysis] not as a weapon, but as a tool to appreciate the intricate structure. He offered his [Adaptation] as a willingness to learn the Grove's rhythm.
The vast, serene space around them seemed to brighten. Teatus Leavatus's core pulsed with warm, golden light.
<You perceive the essence, not just the form,> the Guardian resonated, a sense of profound, ancient satisfaction in its tone. <You understand that true enhancement comes not always from speed and exploitation, but sometimes from patience, balance, and clarity. You are still chaotic, still impatient... but you understand.>
The metaphysical plane dissolved. Lucian found himself back in the tea plantation valley, standing before the massive Guardian, which now seemed less like a potential adversary and more like an ancient, wise teacher.
"You have passed the test, small noisy one," Teatus resonated. It gestured with a leafy hand, and a pouch woven from shimmering leaves appeared before Lucian. "A sufficient sample for your 'analysis'. Use it wisely. Seek clarity, not just power."
Lucian took the pouch, feeling the potent, calm energy radiating from the Star-Sipped Leaves within. He bowed, a gesture of genuine respect this time. "Thank you, Guardian Teatus Leavatus. Your lesson... was highly informative. Efficiency rating of this interaction: Optimal."
Teatus Leavatus gave a slow, rustling sigh that might have been a chuckle. "Go now. And try... to be less noisy."
