Question about Planet Curvature

When calculating planet curvature is it find to simply use images of the celestial body in question?
For example if I’m calculating a explosions size on the moon can I just use an image of the moon if it’s at a high enough altitude to warrant it
Since most planet curvature Calcs I see use normal circles
