Powerless - Role Play Thread

The CT scan revealed a fracture in the lumbar vertebrae, the jagged edges of which threatened the delicate spinal cord.

They had to find a way to fuse the fractured vertebrae and perform a decompression to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord.

In a sense, this was also a race against time, not only to repair the bone, but to preserve movement in garret´s life
"There's our problem. Lumbar fracture. Bone is compressing the nerve bundle. Gotta fix it or he won't walk again.", the Doctor narrowed his eyes. He started preparing tools for the operation.

"I'll have to remove or reposition those fragments, then have nanites hold the vertebra together while it heals."
"Fine... I'll go relinquish CYLAM's controls to you...." (You get to control the character for now)
"Hold on, can you put her A.I back on? I can operate a lot of things, but probably not one of these." (How do you expect Doc to know how to control her?)

"Hold on, can you put her A.I back on? I can operate a lot of things, but probably not one of these." (How do you expect Doc to know how to control her?)
"I'll send you the manual through your comms on how to control her. Also her AI has been malfunctioning since the crash, that's why I have to control her through this..."

Beep! Notification (1): "CYLAM_Manual.pdf" was sent.

Nick stepped forward, scanning the manual as it appeared on display. “Okay, we can work with this,” he said, trying to sound confident. He grabbed sterilization packs and absorbent cloths, preparing to manage the blood loss. “We’ll need to keep the neck area clean after all; any infection here could be catastrophic.” Nick visualizing the procedure. It sounded simple in theory: incision, extraction of fractured bone fragments, repositioning, nanobot doing their work, and sealing but he knew better, nothing about spinal surgery was ever simple. One wrong move, and the patient’s future would vanish in an instant.

"Let’s begin, doc?”

After a short minute walk through the ship, where they saw various items scattered on the floor, they reached the cockpit; broken glass and all stuff useless

The captain approached to his seat and pulled what appeared to be one of those old tablets out from under a panel.

Upon turning it on, he tried to access the cameras. Cameras 4 and 3 were offline, so they were likely destroyed. Cameras 1 and 5 only showed what appeared to be a wall.

But camera 2.. they could see the area outside in complete destruction: pieces of machinery and stolen goods scattered about, sparks occasionally flying, wires dangling from the ceiling, and what appeared to be a liquid dripping from the ceiling and hitting the ground.

What look like robots are most dead, just one which seems to crawling as it have its broken legs, moving to direction opposite of their ship
"So thats the situation eh? Well then...the one still moving has to be put out of its misery and in any case make double sure about the rest, if they fake it"

She reloads her gun and takes a deep breath to prepare herself and she moves along

"If there is anything new on the cameras let me know through the comms, as for those who wanna come along, follow me boys"

No one said anything, just a couple of nods, the captain decide to follow her.

When they reached the ship's outer door, it creaked; a guttural sound, almost a growl. The metal tensed, rubbing against itself, and a few sparks flew into the air before the door finally gave way and swung open.

Taking a look at the scene. The outside looked just as bad --perhaps worse-- than the cameras had shown. The captain and Rox felt a light breeze brush against their skins, flowing northward, which is weird if one take account the nature of this place

In the distance, the robot continued its slow crawling with relentless persistence.

"It's...", he paused. "217 pages... Yeah, sorry. I'll be sticking with my own tech."

As much as the Doctor wanted to learn everything about this android, he didn't have time for that. He just ignored CYLAM and went to inject Garret with a sedative.

"I'm giving you something for the pain. You won't be able to move, but you're not gonna feel a thing either."

"I appreciate the help, but I don't think you have the appropriate training to assist. Please steer clear. I'll handle everything.", the surgeon instructed. A machine that bore a row of robotic arms was positioned over the patient, each equipped with a different instrument. He stepped over to his computer.

"Alright. Beginning operation. Nobody interrupts me."

The arms descended, their movements precise and silent.

(Please don't make me describe the whole thing)

(Alright)

The Doctor as put his hands in work. The first incision was clean, but the moment the blade parted skin, a little of dark blood welled up.

As he peeling back layers of tissue until the fractured vertebra came into view. Jagged bone edges glistened under the surgical lights, sharp and menacing.

“Sure,” he said, as he walked toward the machine. His eyes stayed wide open, scanning every detail, alert for the slightest sign that something might go wrong.

The Doctor's hands finally stilled as the nanomachines sealed the last of the damage. He didn't step back, not yet.

"Vitals.", the man muttered as his eyes flicked to the scan, watching the alignment hold. He looked at Garret.

"Don't move. Just tell me.", he paused. "Garret, can you feel your legs?"

For a moment, the Doctor didn’t breathe. He’d seen this part before. He wasn’t going to lose another one here.

As she walked deeper into the ship, her steps echoed faintly against the cold floor. Ahead, a corridor stretched out, splitting into two directions. The choice seemed simple, the westward path as the breeze was stronger there, pulling at her clothes

Drawn by the current of air, as she toward the western side. That’s when she saw it: a missile, its nose half-buried in the wall, metal twisted and scarred from impact. It hadn’t detonated, but the breach it created was sucking the air outward, a silent warning of whatever lay beyond. likely fired from one of MANUS’ ships. It had pierced the structure but failed to explode, leaving behind a deadly reminder of the battle outside but thinking about it the battle outside sems to had calm down....

She talks through the comma about the situation

"So there is a damn missile stuck in the wall, due to its breaching the air gets sucked out, I will try to use my gravity gloves to repel it off slowly and then try to close it down"

Afterwards she would ask the following

"So how is the bastard that was crawling dealt with? There arent others around alive right?"

Doc froze for half a second before slowly exhaling.

"A cramp means your nerves are firing. I'll take that over nothing. It means the procedure worked.", he said quietly before his eyes sharpened again.

"Now, don't move. Not even an inch unless I tell you to. You're not walking for a while. I don't care if it's uncomfortable. What matters is that you're alive."

The medic finally glanced at Nick.
"Nick, go find Rox and see if she needs help. I'll have to stay here and continue monitoring Garret."

He instructed while adjusting the readouts, watching the signals flicker across the display.

"Can you feel both legs? Any numbness? Tingling? Weakness?", he paused briefly. "Actually, try flexing your toes, just enough for me to see."

He check his comunication and see Rox's question "HEY WAIT NO" he sent first

"Well, if you are feeling as if something is pulling you, is likely the pressure, so is better no take of the missile or you will be ripped by the decompression, i think the best you can do is disable the head-sensor to avoid an accidental detonation, i will see if i can reach your location"

“Alright, just make sure you stay safe. If there’s a door nearby, close it off and secure the area. Keep your eyes open in case someone might still be around” he write and posted as he walked.

His boots echoed softly against the metallic floor until he finally reached Jael. “Hey, Jael. How are things holding up in this sector? I’m planning to head out, see if I can make contact with Rox. ”
Jael swiftly moves in a few feet further into the ship. Snapping to cover, Jael once again takes a similar position to the one assumed outside of the ship. Railgun in one hand, adamantine claws ready on the other. Using exceptional hearing, Jael still kept position for at least a solid 30 seconds before moving further.
(i unsure if Zoro had see my previous post)
As Jael moved on, a faint sound reached jael´s ears: a metallic scraping, sharp and unsettling. It could have been a piece of the ship breaking off, giving way under the strain of battle, but there was another possibility. Jael vaguely remembered Rox mentioning, before the collision, that she and her group had been ambushed by machines

With that said, she secures the area and and closes the door down as told, while holding herself together on her feet, powering through the pain

"Shit, I wished there was some med kits you could inject in you to feel better available, would have been so much easier..."

The Doctor watched the movement carefully, eyes tracking every fraction of motion.

"That’s enough," he said firmly. "Don’t push it."

He let out a slow breath, tension easing just slightly from his shoulders.
"Slow is fine. Your nerves are going to be sluggish after that kind of hit."

His gaze flicked back to the readouts.
"The important part is that the signal’s there."

The medic adjusted the settings on the computer.
“I’m keeping you sedated. You try to move before this stabilizes, you undo all of my work.”

He paused briefly before adding quietly.
"You’re not out of this yet, but you’re not paralyzed. That’s the fight we just won."

Doc didn’t answer immediately. His eyes stayed on the monitor for a moment longer before he finally nodded.

"Yeah… you can," he said quietly. His gaze shifted back to Garret.

"If anything feels wrong, you wake up and tell me. Understood?", he paused. "I’ve got you. Just rest."

He didn’t move away when Garret’s eyes finally closed. His gaze stayed on the screen, watching each line rise and fall in steady rhythm.

"Vitals are holding…", the man muttered under his breath. For a moment, he rested his hand against the edge of the table, just briefly. Then, he straightened and kept watching.

"Tosho, have you contacted HQ?", the Doctor finally had time to message.

[JAEL] message log to [EVERYONE]: Possible hostile machines present.

The sounds only made Jael all the more alert. Gun still trained and adamantine claws ready, the Heavy moved deeper into the ship in another attempt to scout ahead, with any potential ensuing railgun fire functioning as a warning to allies.

Nick wave at Jael
"Jael, something is going on?"
He asked unaware of what happened

"That is odd, nothing from him, the heck..."

She tries to call out after him

"Hey captain, do you hear me? What is the status on your end? I gotta wait on my side a bit"
(I will assuming she is calling with tech, rather than literally say at air)
"... they release some kind of drone corrently i hidden, better watch you direction just in case" he said in low voice before cut connection

"Released a drone...that sounds like a big pain in the ass..."

Talks to herself and waits nearby, taking cover with her back leaned on the wall, keeping her position, although she would inform Nick about this as well, as he was on his way and be ready by any surprises

Nick’s eyes flickered between the messages from Jael and Rox, as he lifted his gaze toward the horizon, his vision warped, sliding seamlessly into night mode, then bleeding into infrared. The world around him was suddenly painted in ghostly shades of heat (or lack of it) and shadow. Through this altered sight, he caught the unmistakable outline of a sphere, no one, but many, gliding silently closer with its trajectory locked on their position

"We have problem guys" He post in the general chat

Meanwhile with Rox. A faint hum reached her ears, low at first, then growing into a sound she knew all too well, it was close to the resonance of anti-gravity engines, she had heard several of those during her returns to Manus Base

She readies her metal arm with the claws popping out slowly, tightening her grip on the gun, the moment they are in her effective range, Rox will assault whatever goes in her way

"Tosho, have you contacted HQ?", the Doctor finally had time to message.
Tosho takes over CYLAM's body and spoke through her.

My communication to the HQ is damaged. I need some time to self-repair. I'm currently stuck at the cockpit. I can't get out.

Back at Tosho's place...

"Shit..."

She glanced at her torso, impaled by one of the ship's damaged fragments.

With Nick and Jael, their Sphere seems to detect them, it change its eye color to a blue-like, rather than a weapon, a mechanical limb it appear, it dont go for Jael or nick, but to one side of their ship, using what appears to be a blowtorch to start doing something against the ship´s metal

The sphere trembled, pushed by her weapon. It took a meter before it drew its weapon, a plasma cannon. The heat in the area began to increase, meaning its was about to fire, with only about 10 seconds before the shot is fired to Rox, meaning she have to find a way to avoid it

Had she been human, the experience would have been unbearable until die, but after years since she was cybertizated, it was more of a mental ache that echoed for a few moments before fading into a dull rumble from her body's systems.

As she approached the undamaged area, she saw a couple of signals on the panel; apparently, two unknown life forms had been detected (i.e., enemies inside the enemy ship) with a location the west area

"Gimme a f*cking break!"

She moves from her spot and goes to the door it entered as fast as she could, while enduring her pain from the injuries, but not before tossing an EMP nearby it and closing behind her

Then uses her gloves to repel as many objects near the entrance, as a shield for another layer of protection, in case that blast of plasma goes through it, she will have to aim dodge once she has visual clarity of coming her way

Rox’s actions were erractic but here, being erractic sometimes means being effective. The EMP pulse didn’t completely disable the drone sphere, but it staggered its systems long enough to weaken the plasma cannon’s charge and give her a bit more of time. The barricade she had assembled with her gloves absorbed most of the weakened plasma, objects sizzling and melting in place

The sphere wobbled in the aftermath as it still affected by the emp, scanning the hole it had carved, trying to confirm a kill but Rox was already tucked against the corridor wall out of the Sphere´s scanning range

She moves further away to stay out of its effective range and try get in contact with the others

"Guys, a sphere of metal came up, I attacked it due to not knowing what was the deal about it, I got attacked back, but got away, whats the situation on your ends?"
