Possible Obscure Physiology?

So recently I came across a piece of media where a certain race of beings within it exist within a space that's provably between spatial dimensions like 2D and 3D and such.

I was just wondering what the hell this could qualify as cause it seems pretty unique?

Gonna bump this and ask another question I've been pontificating about.

If said "space" is between spatial dimensions, would it not function like a bulk space but for dimensionality? By definition you cannot have a space between something without a larger space making it possible. So, what could possibly be so immeasurably large that it can somehow contain the spatial dimensions within itself and even manifest gaps between them?

Could this be higher-dimensional or even outerversal?
