Pokemon Discussion Thread - Z-A arc

Game looks pretty nice. And definitely looking forward to the new combat style now that distance and position will play a role.

Still cautious on how they will translate a whole Pokemon adventure into a single city even if Lumiose is massive now.

And boy am I happy that it's coming late this year and not in like March, only for Game Freak to announce Gen 10 in April to come by the end of the year, screwing over themselves with a rushed development again.

JP site has some differences.

Also, rereading the site (Comparing JP & En.), I notice it compares how green Lumiose is to X & Y from 2013. Presumably, the Pokemon series has its own timeline, but this does suggest a sense of time passage between games, since the phrasing indicates X & Y as being in the past.

Also, the protagonist is apparently going to Lumiose on a sightseeing trip, which may support or oppose some theories.

Biggest difference I found on the JP site is that despite the English site's urlname of "map_fullres", it is only 1220 x 863, while the JP map is a much better resolution. (& also, although I can't find reduced motion settings for the JP site, its version of the map has a limited magnifying glass feature.)

Here's said image proper:

"Perhaps to help with your starter research:
France is where the longest ever sauropod remains were discovered
France is Europe's largest exporter of pork
France has Europe's largest alligator habitat, Aligator Bay. This place also is home to notable albino alligators.
This means that Long Meganium, Porkchop Emboar, and Sunburnt Feraligatr are all but confirmed."

"Chikorita: There are Sauropods in france. My personal pick is Meganium evolving into Ampelosaurus
Tepig: IDK, France is France is a major pig producer in Europe, sooooo that's why it's here ig
Totodile: There was a Nile Crocodile that was found in the Paris sewers, soooo that could explain it"

Yeah, I figured Chikorita and Tepig were going to be in Z-A, but I did not expect Totodile to appear along with them (granted, Cyndaquil did have his turn in Z-A, but even still they could have just saved him for the next Legends game and pair him with Snivy and Litten). Guess this... kinda explains why.

There's also how boars were pretty important for the Gauls in ancient times. I think it was a symbol of the hunt and war, and there was this god called Moccos too.

Which speaking of, I am still deciding if getting a Tepig and calling it Obelix for the irony or getting a Totodile because it's a crocodile.

Were those anywhere near France, historically?
Also, forgive my ignorance, please, but what's the irony in calling a Tepig Obelix?

(Also, if I had the funds for the system & game, I'd pick Chikorita. For one, I don't much mind the risk of a "challenge", especially when it comes to Pokemon, no offense meant to folks.)

Yeah, the Gauls were the Celtic people who lived in ancient times, like two thousand years ago or so, in what's now France, Belgium, Switzerland and parts of Germany.

The joke with Obelix comes from the character of the same name from the Asterix comics who loves hunting and eating roasted boar (and the wild boars are terrified of him).

This also makes me think, will they stop the tease and give Chikorita the Fairy type in a regional evolution or a mega?

I think it's kind of funny that both Pokemon Legends games involve urban development in some way (I could be wrong, I haven't played Legends Arceus yet).

I'm reading the pokespe manga rn (continuing) and i just gotta say, they REALLY know how to make a character unique. I'm on the BW arc and Black, the main character, uses his Munna as adhd medicine. It's genuinely amazing.

I enjoy Pokemon Special a lot as well, but one thing I genuinely disliked about the BW was how the author strawmanned N and made him more unsympathetic and hypocritical just to have the heroes be more right about the power of friendship. I mean, the entire point of N was to have, for a change, a morally gray antagonist who actually might have had a point in his beliefs, and even then the original games pretty much smashed apart his philosophy in the end when it was revealed that Ghetsis, who was straight up evil, just manipulated and forged that fake notion that Pokemon and humans can't coexist and then got destroyed by Hilbert/Hilda who epitomizes teamwork and trust.

I legitimately think it's pretty much the same character with more villain eye close-ups.

Manga bomb was 6-C but we used the assumption that the magikarp were further away and got 7-C for Magikarps. People thought it was an outlier, but, yet again, I have gotten Low 7-B results for the bomb and Magikarp ingame are smack dab in the middle of the lake, so they'd take the full brunt of it.

feel like you can calc Sinnoh's size from Hisui using Rapidash dex entries. But its a good calc

it gives us 362.103km but the thing is, we don't know from which point to which it travels. Hokkaido, the place Sinnoh is based off of, can be measured to over 400km in width at some points, but then only 200 in others. I think it is at best good support for the fact that the regions are in fact that big.

I'd say the one and only issue I have with the Pokemon world is Unova. Its based on Manhattan but it is very clearly bigger since otherwise you'd be able to see the entire region by simply standing on some minor elevation.

Well, they did away with his more affable personality traits and many of his more friendly moments were also changed around and came more tense and antagonistic (the ferris wheel conversation is a big example). He comes more as a straight up villain that's deluded instead of openly malicious.

Yeah, villain eye close-ups. The dude is like my favorite villain, but he's legitimately villainous or crazy sometimes. Lemme drop a few quotes from the games.

"Huh. I expected more from you. Now pay attention. My friends and I will test you to see if you can see this future, too."

"You're quite strong. But I have a future that I must change. And, for that future... I'll defeat the Champion and become unbeatable, unlike any other! I'll make all Trainers free their Pokémon! Just try and stop me! If you want to be together with Pokémon, your only hope is to collect the Badges from each area and head for the Pokémon League! Try and stop me there, if you dare! If your conviction is not strong enough, you will never be able to defeat me."

"Many different values mix together, and the world becomes gray... That is unforgivable! I will separate Pokémon and people, and black and white will be clearly distinct! Only then will Pokémon become perfect beings! Yes, that is my dream! That is the dream I must fulfill! <player>, do you have a dream of your own?"

"As if a person without a dream could ever understand me! Eh... I guess... I have to crush your will here!"

"The king's words will resound from the heights to all below. You must come to the castle, as well. Everything will be decided there. Whether Pokémon will be liberated from people, or whether Pokémon and people will live together… We will see whose belief is stronger... And our result will change the world."

"Get ready! Go after it! Reshiram will incinerate people who fail to keep truth in their heart."

Also, he states that he just doesn't give a **** about human life at one point. He says the only reason he doesn't subjugate the world by force is that innocent Pokémon would be hurt. The dude's bonkers for a while. It's so cool.

Guys, recommend me great pokemon rom hacks, it doesn't need to have all/ a lot of pokemon, z moves and all that. I just want a clean completed rom hack that is enjoyable, just not something that goes exactly like the orginal games with little to no changes

As a guy whose first experience with pokemon was mostly from rom hacks, i really used to enjoy Pokemon Light Platinum. It's definitely different from a mainline game.

I recently played Pokémon Prism and thought it was pretty good. Technically it’s not fully complete, but I believe all that’s missing is some post-game things which aren’t connected to the main post-game content.

Also while I’m not sure what exactly counts as “little to no changes”, I also recently played Kanto Expansion Pak which adds Kanto-related cross-gen evolutions, regional variants, Paradox Pokémon and even beta Pokémon in. There’s also some extra areas and an expanded post-game, so it’s more than just vanilla Kanto when it comes to the overworld.

Edit: There just remembered Gold/Silver ‘97 Reforged, which I played a while ago. It’s basically a complete version of the Spaceworld 1997 demo of Gold that was massively different from the final game.

Oh, yeah, the dude is not a saint by any means. (I had forgotten that he talked so much). Even his two muses had a very good quote about him, which more or less said that N was a very pure person, but purity was perhaps the scariest thing about him. He had this affable and even friendly side to him that combined well with his genuine conviction of doing the right thing, which I think Adventures left too much aside (well, to be fair, he is given sympathy and all when they arrive at the castle and his backstory is explained). And thinking about it, perhaps that's also a consequence of the silent protagonist, given Hilda or Hilbert couldn't just argue back nor they had much ground given they were rookie trainers (which might also explain why N was in his B2W2 self in the anime, IIRC, since we know Ash's reaction to his philosophy)

Well, I've only played Dark Rising (tried it out of curiosity when bumping on it on an android emulator). How to put it? It's not good at all. Cliché overly anime story, weird characterization, random cameos from characters from other series, broken combat, unpolished and exaggerated difficulty, plethora of bugs... Yet, I dunno... you can tell a lot of love went into it, and it kinda can be felt. The game at least does try to follow it's own path, even if it trips and cracks open its face against the ground. Though I can't really say I recommend it. And well, to be fair, from what I know, it was the first hack made by the author when she was very young, and we're all cringe at the beginning.

Pokemon Light Platinum is really good, and now there are newer versions where there are more Pokemon and all that, i think that would be worth playing. If you like pokemon Light Platinum, you'd probably like pokemon glazed, it's really good.

Man you must really like GBC type of graphics.

You should probably play cleaner rom hacks

Not a ROM hack, but the fan game "Pokemon Reloaded" is worth a look, although it's not fully translated into English (and is still in Last beta, But it's supposed to be possible to transfer save files between updates.).

In short, I think it's more similar to what was presented in Pokémon Legends Za than to normal Pokémon games.
You control the Pokémon in battle and can attack and dodge in real time (you have a PP bar that recharges over time, and each attack consumes a certain amount of it).

The game takes place in a totally new region (Region Star), several villainous teams from the past appear in the story, and it is planned that all Pokémon can be caught (Currently, all Pokémon from 1st to 8th gen are available, as well as some from 9th gen + some Fakemon as new evolutions
{Pikachu Blue, Eeveeon, Torkore, etc.}, directly new Pokémon and forgotten variants {Pikachus with ORAS suits, Crystal Onix, Dark Mewtwo from Pokken, Greninja-Ash, Floete Eternal Blossom, etc.}).
In addition to this, the Mega Evolutions and the Z-moves, plus the Battle Front and an extensive post game post the battle front
