If ulti was clashing with a luffy who was storing up his energy. Their clash was a headbutt not really luffys thing but he still held his ground.


Luffy states he underestimated ulti, and we literally see that ulti saw luffy as someone who was strong. While Luffy was underestimating her so he most likely didn't try his hardest, he then forced ulti into her half form but forces page into his full. Which luffy then forces ulti into her full form. After embarrassing her brother and doing a german suplex on her.

Only time luffy was going to use g4 was to escape her grip and overpower her since she was going to use ulti meteor again.

Where is there anything here saying that luffy was ulti level? He is far superior he just wasn't trying at the level he was with kaido.
Luffy not trying and holding back significantly before taking them a bit serious>both ulti and page combined. The only time ulti actually got luffy was when she caught him off guard. In conclusion luffy was stronger than them but didn't try at his maximum power.

Well, the Viz translation didn't mention Luffy laughing. Just smiling. And Luffy spent a lot more of the fight serious & pissed off than he was laughing.

We know damn well Viz isn't good, and if someone else who comes and says "Viz messed up" and translates it well, we always take their word for it, especially SANDMAN_AP, who is one of the best and most reliable translators for OP

Viz was so bad that their new translator had to retranslate the entirety of post timeskip because it was so bad, and people in this thread have countered Viz's translations

The latter is for Gear 5, not base Luffy. Which is what my argument is agaisnt.
The former itself mentions nothing about Luffy getting stronger in that scene with Kaido. It's just talking about the translation from Road to Laughtale, which is also about Gear 5 Luffy. Base Luffy is never brought up.

And this is exactly why I see no point in just going through all of One Piece and getting all the instances of just Luffy laughing and no difference in his strength of power being noticed. The argument KT is trying to have isn't even on the right basis.

That entire page is contextualized by Luffy's Fifth Gear, it's the title of the page. And to nail that in, when it makes the statement it shows G5 Luffy laughing.

So you didn't prove otherwise. Luffy had to awaken the df so it can actually have access to that. Thats when they actually become the embodiment of nika or you can say freedom. Luffys laughing statement is only for gear 5. The road to laugh tale says otherwise it literally says

What...... why would you even say this... what did you prove... Gear 5 gives luffy complete freedom over quite anything he wants ofc according to statements showing that he quite literally defies logic, and was stated to be able to rewrite reality. But its most likely only limited so he can make things function how he wants it to. Gear 5 gives him those traits, his other gears don't have that since those weren't actual forms provided by the df. But were created by luffy himself.

Translating Kaidou's speech bubble as "laugh" doesn't make a lot of sense because in context Luffy hasn't been doing any laughing at that point in the fight.

If the suggestion is that Luffy went from "Ulti level" to "Kaidou level" over a few chapters with just a "Hee hee" then Luffy would already have gotten exponentially stronger from all the other laughing he's done and there is no evidence of that.

Anyway; I don't think that the "Luffy struggled with Ulti" arguments have a lot of merit. Luffy wasn't going all-out at first against her, and the fight was interrupted before Luffy had the chance to stomp her.

Yes when they actually use their devil fruit form. Therefore it doesn't count to luffys previous gears.
