Well, if Doctor Fate was stated to exceed the power of Superman, that is probably fine to scale from in itself, but 1965 was long before Superman reached his height of powerful feats.

I mean, Superman did gain better feats overtime, but did he grow stronger canonically?

Yes, surviving hits from The Spectre should be useful in itself.

Did he survive them physically or through some sort of barrier and/or spell? Because I seem to remember his overall durability is lower, tho I could be mistaken.

Physically though I don't think nabu durability is lower from what I've seen but doctor fate probably.
