Depends on the spell. Most are instantaneous, but some of them, like the curse casted passively when Matt hits with the sword takes time (3 turns in game)

But the way for Goku to win is that he is likely a higher degree of 3-A, even if not too much, and he is much more skilled than Matt. In fact, he was originally going to win rather easily, the problem was my CRT

What is really killing Goku here is his CIS that prevents him from fighting from the other side of the universe with Ki blasts. Matt's Death Manipulation require him to enter CQC, and all of the others are mostly hax resistances
