As many of you may be aware Boruto the movie has recently been released and along with the new movie comes new feats. One of the more memorable feats occurs in the short battle between Momoshiki, Sasuke and Naruto. The particular feat I am referring to occurs when Momoshiki launches volleys of melted rock at Sasuke(1:15-1:30). We can clearly see the rock melt demonstrating it is lava. However something interesting happens. As Sasuke's Susanoo ribs easily tank the lava Momoshiki raises the temperature hot enough to severely burn Sasuke. My hypothesis is that at this point the Lava is no longer just lava; it's plasma. To establish this lets go into what Plasma is.
Plasma is the 4th state of matter and the most abundant state of matter(besides dark matter) in the known universe. Properties of Plasma include a superhigh temperature and a release of heat and light energy. In fact the most recognizable source of Plasma in our Solar System is the Sun itself. Plasma acts very much like a gas in that it has no defined volume or shape (i.e its malleable) and can only be created by superheating a gas or exposing it to particularly powerful electrical fields.
Sasuke's Lava Durability- We have seen from earlier in the series that even a weakened Sasuke's Susanoo ribs can tank Lava in the Gokage Summit. We have seen that Sasuke's ribs can tank Lava in the very same movie where he protected Boruto from a very large wave of Lava as well as himself from Momoshiki's unbuffed attack. As such we can safely say that Sasuke's Susanoo Armor can easily tank Lava. Sasuke also demonstrated no discomfort from the heat of the Lava even though it was literally at point blank range. This suggests that Sasuke's heat durability is enough to tank Lava.
The properties of the attack- This attack broke through Sasuke's Susanoo ribs which we have seen can easily tank Lava even in a weakened state. The temperature was severe enough to burn Sasuke to the point of temporary unconsciousness. As such we can confidently say that the attack produced a huge amount of heat far more than Lava. Lava tends to range from 700-1200 degress celcius. As Sasuke's earlier chakra exhausted Susanoo ribs easily protected him from these temperatures we know that the temperatures Momoshiki produced must be far above those levels. Even so called "cold-plasma" has temperatures that are in the thousands of degrees. This is significantly hotter than lava and explains how this attack can burn through a technique with at least town level durability.
The visible traits of the attack- Last but not least the attack functions like Plasma. We see that it has no definite shape or volume-molding itself to Sasuke's Susanoo. We know that the temperature is significantly hotter than Lava which fits the profile of plasma. Finally the attack produced a very large amount of visible light so much so that Boruto could not look at it directly and was forced to shield his eyes. This is also consitent with the properties of plasma.
In conclusion due to the properties of the attack being remarkably consistent with Plasma, along with the fact that it easily burned through Sasuke's Susanoo which has easily tanked high level lava techniques I conclude that Momoshiki's attack was most likely Plasma not simply Lava.
