Magus can only win if he use his Barrier to make this match an AP battle and use his 3 times advantage to subdue noctis

Because Noctis is literally the better mage here with all his resistance to magic and such, not voting, just thinking about this match

Seeing as how Noctis resists every single one of Magus' preferred combat spells and also his transmutation, he may be inclined to use his other abilities once he realizes they aren't working. That said, how skilled is this Noctis? And yeah, Magus' barrier is a threat like always.

Both duplicate and teleport,
Both use elemental spells,
Both integrate some melee into their fighting styles,
Both seem to resist their basic abilities

So it comes down to skill and how likely are they to use the things not resisted by the other.

For Magus skill, I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote in the Diamondkix thread (cuz lazy)

"Magus does incorporate CQC on his fighting style (he literally tried an iaidō strike against Lavos), and is pretty comparable to Frog and Crono in skill, both very accomplished swordsmen, particularly Frog who was regarded as the best swordsman in the entire kingdom (and in one of the endings, it shows them both fighting in melee, with an ambiguous ending on who won; and that's frog using a sword that's designed to counter Magus, while Magus was occupied with his ritual to summon Lavos)"

"The entire cast fought this thing and "won". Yeah, that should say more than enough.

(Describing the thing)And can see infinite timelines at once, and also summoned the powers and abilities of every boss across the game enhanced, including Magus himself, while on top summoning alternate timeline versions of itself whenever close to losing until they figured out his core."

1st, which version of Noctis is this? If it's Post or King of Light, he can freely use his ring of the lucii without any backlash (He can still use it in Pre-Timeskip, it just wears on him since he hasn't taken his 10 year dip in the Crystal yet), so does Magus have any answer to Death or Alterna? And Noctis can summon the Astrals to assist him which would include Shiva who's aura and ice has absolute zero

As for Skill, Noctis has been training with the weapons he uses since he was a child and regularly sparred with his allies on his journey such as Aranea, an accomplished Dragoon, and Gladio, who's the most skilled King's Shield in their history due to being the 1st to defeat Gilgamesh in a century, something thousands of different warriors tried and failed to do including Cor Leonis, another extremely skilled swordsman.

And how does his barrier shift work? Given Noctis can use more than one element at once via Magic Flasks and imbued weapons and his entire fighting style involves switching up his weapons and equipment on the fly to suit his situation.

Oh yeah. Summons are a thing.

Yeah, Noctis probably wins this. The problem with Magus' barrier is that it can only stop one element at a time. That's how the heroes bypass it, by bringing people that can use different elements to bypass it when he changes to match the one who attacked him before.

So yeah, Noctis can overwhelm him via summons in the long run.

Definitely not a stomp, tho, as Magus boss fight also had the circumstance of him being distracted by the ritual to summon Lavos. He probably could have soloed the cast at that point in time if it wasn't for that and Frog's Masamune straight up countering him.

But here he is fighting essentially a composite Chrono Trigger cast that can also summon more people. It's just a matter of time (fitting).

Edit: I explained the barrier horribly, lol. It can stop all elements except the one that targeted before. So by having multiple elemental attacks, you can essentially control it against Magus.

This is King of Light since there were other characters on this bracket that would easily wail on Noctis without Noctis's planetary range or Lucii spam

Though now that you mention it we could just do Post-Timeskip Noctis since he can Lucii spam in that key
