The engaging story, neat character development (especially for Lucy), the coverage of themes it covered, complex character relations (except for the incest bits), and has great emotional value. Coming from someone who considers FMAB, Death Note, HxH & JoJo to be the best animes/mangas ever made.
Only bad thing is the artwork (especially at the beginning of the manga). It does improve, but it can be handled soooo much better

I felt mildly uhappy and/or angry throughout.

Comming from someone who considers Sakura Trick, Intertwined Stars and Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star to be masterpeices, I dissagree.
