He resisted because he ate the spinach, so the resistance should be moved to the other key

I interpret Popeye's words as him expressing that a side effect of his healthy diet is that he can resist the Existence Switch. He said that he generally eats spinach, not that he did so shortly before the Existence Switch was hit to get a resistance buff. I didn't see Popeye eat spinach in what was posted of the comic, meaning it looks like Popeye can resist existence erasure unexpectedly, without needing to eat spinach first to achieve that.

That's one of the interpration that I had, but i'm unsure, the phase is done in a strange way
