  • This is base/human Hughie (in case it wasn't obvious lol)
  • Richie has his standard equipment, while Hughie has his box cutter and improvised shield (from S4E4)
  • Fight takes place in Stu Macher's house (Scream 2022)
  • Starting distance is 15 meters, no clear line of sight
  • Neither has prior knowledge of the other, besides Hughie having a general idea of Ghostface (not Richie specifically)
  • SBA otherwise
Hughie: 4 (@AThe1412, @Pyro9278, @TegamiBachi25, @Dinozxd)

Richie: 1 (@ThePrimalHunter)

A third Jack Quaid swoops in (incon):

Probably voting for Hughie in this scenario as well. He has knowledge that Ghostface is a stealth fighter so he'll be more aware of his surroundings and can counter sneak attacks with the shield. In terms of skill, I think he has at least a minor advantage as ambushing an armed terrorist and beating him in melee while having a broken ankle seems more impressive than what Richie has achieved with his kills relying on stealth and the fact that most of his victims are relatively defenseless. He does have higher stamina and can take quite a lot of stabs to the chest but a slit throat was enough to kill him and guess what his opponent was taught to do in hand to hand? Richie also has superior LS though which can even out the odds and while Hughie has higher durability, piercing damage more or less mitigates that.

Counted for the boy

I think Hughie could handle Ghostface, although with quite a bit of effort due to the LS difference that further favors stealth attacks. He might be able to survive a couple of attacks from Ghostface, and if he does, he would likely counterattack directly as he did with the terrorist. From what we've seen in season 4, Hughie already knows how to defend himself quite decently.

Voting for Hughie

Hughie has shown himself to actually not be a bad fighter, so if things get up close he'll be able to hold himself

That being said, Richie has a better weapon here. A boxcutter has pretty much no range & doesn't cut very deep, so if you want a kill, you have to hit something vital that's surface level, like the neck. Richie's knife has more range as well as a bigger blade that lets him cut deeper than Hughies. And Hughie's shield can be pretty easily dissarmed due to Ghostface's superior LS. I don't remember how good Richie was at stealth, but if he's competent at all, I don't see why he wouldn't just be able to sneak up behind Hughie & slit his throat, even with Hughie knowing about the possible sneak attack

Honestly might have to go against the tide & say Richie here. In any physical confrontation he can easily overpower Hughie's 10-B AP & Average Human LS, with really his only worry being Hughie's stamina & Wall level durability, but a good stab to the throat would solve both of those issues. A knife beats a boxcutter in a fight every time, and Hughie really only has a chance with the shield, which can be easily disarmed. From there, it's just a matter of time until Richie just manages to stab Hughie enough for him to bleed out

I'm voting Richie

The guy Hughie fought also had an LS advantage and a weapon similar to Richie's yet he still won that fight. Hughie is capable of stealth as well so he can get the drop on Ghostface too.

Hughie's whole fighting experience here. Which tbf, it ain't bad, and miles ahead of Richie.

Areas where Hughie was trained (sort of) to attack

Yeah, the shield would only safe him from some stabs, but it stay for long

Sending the whole scene for context, for his kill on Wes. And adding his trickery with Vincent.

Also worth noting though.

Honestly, rewatching this clip has changed my mind on the hand-to-hand outcome. Hughie, while clumsey, is a lot more adept to combat & skilled

I still might keep my vote for Richie though. That Vince feat seems crazy impressive, sneaking out of the car while he was looking directly at it and would've noticed a door opening & closing is almost superhuman, and imo is more impressive then most of Hughie's feats, so Richie winning via a sneak attack is still very likely

Yeah, Richie's style is sneak attack + single stab for a reason: he sucks in direct confrontation

To be fair, Vincent was blinded by the light and defeated by the sound (to en extent). Additionally, we see that Vince can reach the keys from the window, so Richie wouldn't have to stay inside all the time. And between the last revving of the engine and his clear POV there's like 7 seconds.

So, still impressive, just not precisely superhuman or anything like. But stealth is Richie's strong point.
