Just an unexpected note. The fact that the debris didn't continue flying in the same direction after he busted it proves that he destroyed the momentum too. After he busted it, the debris started to split apart besides the destroyed mountain and it falls, and not that the debris continued flying at the same direction (upwards). That evidence is enough. The only way this downgrade is true if the Manhattan-sized rock is in rest and not moving, or if the debris were still going upwards after he busted it.

Momentum is a vector quantity, the debris don't have to fly at the same direction as the initial object.

1.The feat isn't even accepted here so i don't really know why you are bringing this up.

2.We see the debris being launched so KE is reasonable in this case.
