A dude freezes the Atlantic Ocean, but it's made out of undiluted vodka. Stupid feat, I know, but I kinda wanted to incorporate it in my series.

129751756200000000000000000 joules, assuming that the ocean is made out of water (which may or may not be a lowball. Don't have the value for freezing vodka). High 6-A.

The Atlantic has a volume of 310,410,900 km3, which is equal to 3.104109e+17 cubic meters.

Density of ethanol is 790kg/m^3

  • Frozen mass = 2.4522461e+20kg.
The average global temperature is about 16 degrees Celsius.

  • Freezing point of ethanol = -114.1 degrees Celsius
  • Temp change = 130.1
  • Heat capacity of ethanol at 16 degrees = 2460j/kg
  • Latent heat of fusion of ethanol = 109000j/KG
So:

  • q1 = (2.4522461e20*130.1*2460) = 7.8483156e25 joules
  • q2 = (2.4522461e20)*(109000) = 2.6729482e+25 joules.
  • Total energy = 1.0521264e+26 joules, or 25.146 petatons of TNT (Multi-Continent level)
