So where did you get the idea that she wasn't trying? She was adamant about her plan until Cyrene and March told her that Cerydra planted a failsafe that would cause everyone to be assimilated into Irontomb and allow it to immediately actualize. Even then she was still acting somewhat antagonistic until March talked her out of it by sharing her personal thoughts and experiences.

Anyway point was that Evernight was very deep in her element on Amphoreus. Evernight outside of such a memoria rich environment would not fare as well. Even more so when the opponent is practically the Adam Smasher of the verse.

And for the record you said she "couldn't" so I'm merely following your logic of thought here. If she can't even fight opponents weaker than Zephyro while in her best environment then what chance does she even have? "Things would go differently" yeah she'd awaken and then get immediately slapped into bedtime.
