If it's Android Saga, Goten still has an advantage, but not as large of one. However, Considering Vegeta was stronger than Goku at this point and even he couldn't damage 18, I'm confident Goku would have a hard time.

Goten is equal to Ultimate Gohan, since the Daizenshuu only says "Gohan", meaning Gohan in general, and since Ultimate Gohan is the strongest warrior of the Boo Saga aside from Gotenks-absorbed Super Boo and Super Vegito, that means Goten stomps.

Seriously, Base Vegito has no feats at all in the manga. Look up the chapter where he first appears. He sweats bullets when he sees Gohan-Boo firing a suppressed ki blast at him, and he turns into a Super Saiyan immediately to block that.
Meanwhile, Gohan casually stomps Super Boo, and is called the "Saikyo no Senshi", which literally translates to the "strongest of warriors". Pretty sure nobody in the entire saga, aside from Gotenks-Boo, Gohan-Boo and Super Vegito, can hold a candle to him.

Didn't Old Kai state Vegito wouldnt even need SS anything to defeat Super Buu since the fusion by itself was already so strong and if they went SS the extra power could potentially put strain on their body and life?

Except the problem with that Kep is that Elder Kai is specifically refering to the power of the Potara, not whom is fusing via the Potara. Otherwise he would have said something about Goku and Gohans combined power being that great, not the power of the potara in general.

Those are fan-translated lines, and Herms's translations are far better, since it's word-for-ford from the Japanese. We generally trust Herms 100% when it comes to DBZ here.
